Smart Plug
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryThe necessity to manage electrical energy sources is becoming more important as the value of energy resources rises. A smart plug device is presented by our group which has features to measure energy consumption, voltage, power factor, power overload and frequency. Combined with mesh network this system can can provide control and coverege over a large area.
Project ObjectivesThe main motive behind the smart plug is to minimize energy loss without compromizing on utility. This is achieved by implementing a remote control over a large area by using minimum resources required. Mesh plays the key role in this project.
Project Implementation Method1. We used PZEM 004t module to monitor voltage, current, power factor, energy consumption, frequency. Data is sent to ESP8266
2. we have used ESP8266module. It has wifi connectivity that is used to send the data to web server. It also controls the relays.
3. We have used Arduino IDE to program the SoC and developed a webserver to control and monitor node mcu pins.
4.Multiple ESP8266 boards are deployed which communicate with each other through mesh configuration
5. Relays Receives the control signal from ESP8266 and switches the appliance ON and OFF. Provides protection against over power.
Benefits of the ProjectOur system provides better control and monitoring on both local and remote network.
Compared to traditional star topology our system has no limitation and can go on as long as nodes are within reach of at least single node.
Intelligent decision algorithm decideds which node is the best to make connection to and broadcast data over.
