Smart Notice Board
This project comprises two Android app, out of which, one is developed for faculty members and students of computer science department of University of Wah. The purpose of proposed system is to help the faculty members to send notifications from remote areas within a short time. The proposed system supporta PDF documents and images that can be uploaded by any authorized faculty member. The admin can create groups of faculty members and students. Authorized faculty members can create, edit, update, and delete notifications. Finally, the other application, so-called the public app, is developed for integration with university's LED display screen. Faculty members can send public notifications on the public app. Consequently, this app displays them in the LED display.
The world is going mobile when wireless communication announced its arrival on big stage. Now, we don't have to move an inch to control everything. Our objective is to develop Smart Notice Board in order to provide better and efficient communication among faculty members and students. Our aim is to help the faculty members to send otifications from remote areas within a short time at ease. Authorized faculty members can upload PDF documents and images within their registered classes or groups in order to share them with students. Subsequently, those students can receive these documents within no time. Another objective is to develop a consistent contact among faculty members and students to avoid difficulties in managing conflicts in time scheduling process.
The implementation of our proposed systems incorporates Android API Level 21 in order to use more powerful and richer libraries to develop a more user-friendly GUI for the users. We have integrated Firebase database with our system that lets our business logic to manipultate data using NoSQL queries over the Internet. Since the database resides on the cloud, the users can access the database via Android app from remote areas. Furthermore, we have incorporated object oriented programming techniques while writitng our entity classes so that encapsulation can be enforced, and the system can be made more modular and robust.
Notice board is important for organizations and open spots. In the present quicker life, it is too hard to even consider sticking numerous paper-based notifications on notice-board, so the organizations and shopping centers are currently utilizing the smart notice board. The faculty memebers can easily share PDF docuemnts and images with the students on a tap of a finger. There is a consistency in communcation among the faculty members and students. This app reduces the paper-work and the extra costs of priniting such papers for pinning them up on the notice board. Faculty members can send pubilc or group notifications from remote areas. The students can also view these notifications via the app using anywhere, anytime. The pain of waiting for new updates and conflict resolution is now eliminated. Such managment can be done via the app. Finally, the faculty members and students can communicate with each other in a timely manner.

We have implemented two different Android apps. The reason is pretty simple. The faculty members can disseminate two different types of notification, i.e. public and group notifications. The public notifications are disseminated to all the students via LED display screen and the public app. The group notifications are desseminated to the students of a specific group only. To use the app, an working Internet is required, since the app deals with Firebase database that manipulates data over the Internet. Lastly, the app can be used on any Android phone that runs Android 5 and above.
