Smart Navigation Glasses
Project Area of Specialization Augmented and Virtual RealityProject SummaryThe project named "Smart Navigation Glasses" will result in a gadget that will help riders to navigate the way to their destination using augmented reality. This gadget will help the people especially bike riders who are not familiar with their path in a better way using glasses. it will be connected to your smartphone where you will set the location of your departure and destination and the glasses will help you on your way by showing arrows. In respect of showing arrows, it will use principles of augmented reality used in Google glasses and Microsoft hollow glasses. in normal flow, the user will turn on glasses and will connect it to a smartphone.
In a smartphone, the user will set a destination and will start navigating. while riding, the glasses will show arrows where to turn according to the way towards the destination.
The first objective is that we are planning this innovative idea as our Final Year Project. We want to implement this in society due to its benefits. one objective is to make a gadget that will help a common person as well as the professional driver to navigate from source to destination using smartphone application like google maps. In the success scenario, the outcome of the project will help the people, drivers, and companies in such a way that they would not have to stick with their smartphones to navigate. we want it to be implemented in our country so that people of Pakistan will have the taste of this modern technology.
one main objective is that 4th industrial revolution in on its way. the world is now using Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Computer Vision in industry and many fields. Our goal is to introduce a product in society that uses this principle so that the people in the industry can have an attraction towards these disciplines.
Smart Navigation Glasses implementation will work in conjunction with a smartphone and has two parts.
In the first part, we will build glasses that will have a camera to send its input to a smartphone and then after some calculation show arrows within the glasses. We are planning to use Arduino Nano to implement this, similar to DIY Smart Augmented Reality Glasses. We will use Bluetooth technology to connect a smartphone and glasses. It will also have a battery and some charging mechanism preferably Micro-USB or USB Type C for faster charging.
In the second part, we need to build a smartphone application for Android as well as iPhone that will have the interface to control glasses and Google maps like interface to set destination. The route from source to destination and direction will be calculated using Google Maps API. The smartphone will send direction updates to the glasses using Bluetooth technology, and glasses will show the user where to turn next. One good thing about Maps API now is that we can download offline Maps thus removing constant internet connectivity issue. So it will work offline too. We only need three things that are glasses, smartphone, and Bluetooth.
If the project is successful, we can further expand this project i.e Smart Navigation Helmet and Smartwatch applications. We can connect to a smartwatch instead of a smartphone and show direction on either of them, depending upon user preferences. Furthermore, we can also create ease of use for drivers of apps like Careem and Uber, by automatically syncing glasses for ride routes.
One benefit is to reduce road accidents. People usually use smartphones for navigation. they keep looking at their smartphones while driving a car or motorbike that diverts their concentration from driving. This causes a road accident. According to surveys, the ratio of road accidents while using smartphones is much higher nowadays. Our goal is to provide the facility so that people can focus on driving easily and in a better way.
Time is a precious thing. this gadget will guide at every moment of the journey so that you don't have to stop and check the route on your mobile phone. it will save you time.
The device will guide you with the route throughout so that the possibility of choosing the wrong path will be lessened.
If it would be successful at the commercial level, Industry and students will be encouraged to work in the projects of computer vision and augmented reality for their benefit.
After completion, the resulting product will be a complete glasses that will have a camera to send its input to a smartphone. and there will be a mobile phone application that will do some calculation and show arrows within the glasses. It will use Bluetooth technology to connect a smartphone and glasses. It will also have a battery and some charging mechanism preferably Micro-USB or USB Type C for faster charging. So, the final deliverable product will contain two modules, one is hardware glasses and other is controlling mobile application.
