A motorway is a major road that has been specially built for fast travel over long distances. Motorways have several lanes and special places where traffic gets on and leaves. A smart motorway is an intelligently managed motorway that uses various artificial intelligence techniques to manage the traffic flow, variable speed limits and respond to incidents in real time.

Main features of the SM device are:

• Speed Check
• Location information
• Accidents/shocks reporting,
• Emergency message alerts (weather, traffic congestion, alerts)

The aim is to develop smart motorway device system, which uses microcontroller as a central part to sense (detect) the vehicle accident, location and speed of vehicles and informing the motorway police about the location, speed and accident using GSM module so that motorway police can generate the alert for other cars to slow down for further misshape in that area. This scheme will help the motor way management to continuous monitor the vehicles speed and in case of over speeding fine will be put on the concern vehicle.

Project Objectives

The main core of this project is to design a system which monitor the accidental cars and inform to the motorway police or ambulance. This ultimately saves the life by decreasing time of arrival of ambulance. So the objective is to monitor accidental cars and inform about their status which is beneficial for consumer and government. Moreover the objective also includes the monitoring of the car, whenever the car exceeds particular speed limit controller will be activated and SMS with coordinates will also be send to the police or toll collector plaza. In case of accident on any area, police will be able to send information to the other cars for safety.

Project Implementation Method

Microcontroller is the main part of project it performing the processes like, displaying status on LCD, sensing the accident information to the nearest pole with in the range of zig bee, where on the other side controller also performing the process like receiving the accident information displaying it on LCD, turn on the buzzer and send information about accident about accident and position through GSM module to the concern authority.

GPS and GSM devices for controlling motorway traffic which will help us to track a car`s exact location and also speed of the car. We are also using shock sensors which will help the traffic police and ambulance to locate the accident occurred place and will help the accident effectives to reach the hospital sooner. It will also provide a two way communication between the device user and main server (traffic authorities) .

                Application for monitoring and analysis of vehicles traffic on motorway can be observe.           

•Alert:

                The application also provide notification of traffic conditions to the user which is broadcast automatically.

•Challan:

              Automatically  charge the vehicle  and user will receive the challan at the end of motorway.
