Electricity is playing an important role in the development of the industries. The countries that are using the “automation systems” in every field especially in electricity and in managing loads are moving towards more development. Automation is the key that leads to the modernization and also is the way to increase the efficiency and the productivity. Different developing countries are started to introduce and work on smart grids and micro grids. Environmentally friendly power sources like sunlight based, wind, tidal, hydro and geothermal energy are used for generation purpose. Supervision is required for the control purpose in industries, that task is complicated one. So, PLCs and SCADA systems provide the interfacing platform to control, monitor, collect and alert the operator before the fault. Programming logic controllers (PLCs) are extensively used from the last few decades because of its features like they are flexible, reliable, and low power consumer. The software reduces the mere requirements and also optimize the control process using this. With the advancement of things and innovation in electronics and technology the SCADA system is an emerging technology used extensively. SCADA is the abbreviation of “supervisory control and data acquisition” as the name demonstrates it provides automatic control of equipment and supervision. In this proposed project this technology is used for the automatically switching (according to the demand) between sources like solar system and WAPDA, automation of the shifting system and automatically control the loads.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method

Solar system:

Solar panels are composed of photovoltaic cells that’s are used to convert solar energy into electrical energy.

WAPDA:

WAPDA is responsible for 220 to 230V supply with 50Hz frequency.

Volt/Convertor:

It is used to convert voltage from DC to AC or AC to DC. It may be rectifiers or Invertors. It converts voltage to a low value that can be taken by a PLC.

PLC:

PLC is used to switching and automation of WAPDA and solar system. It is also used here for managing load. We will use relays for switching of solar system and WAPDA and for load.

SCADA:

It is used here to monitor, control and collect data. All things will be changed automatically as well as manually.

Batteries:

Batteries are used to store additional energy that is generated by solar panels. Additional energy will be utilized in shortage or in load shedding.

Loads:

Different AC or DC loads are managed or automatically controlled using PLC and SCADA system. Load will be managed by digital outputs through Relays.
