SMART GEYSER
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryTANK WATER HEATERS: They come in two variants—gas and electric. The tank is insulated to help keep the inner water warm, and a thermostat controls the overall temperature of the water. They have lower power requirement and can easily adapt to different power circuits. However, they have certain disadvantages like limited hot water supply since they can heat only the water that can be stored in the tank. Besides, these are bulky and occupy more space.
Gas water heaters have a number of components in common, including the drain valve, the TPR valve, an internal anode rod, dip tube and pipes and fittings for hot water and overflow/pressure relief. In both cases, the internal tank is wrapped with insulating material to keep the water hotter longer.
Electric water heaters have a separate thermostat, while the thermostat on gas models is built into the gas control valve. Gas water heaters also have a heat limiting device to prevent overheating. When water temperature inside tank drops below set point, a signal, in the form of mechanical movement of bimetallic strip, is interpreted by the gas control valve to release gas to the burner where it is ignited by the pilot light or hot. When temperature of water reaches set point, typically 120-130°F, the thermistor signals gas valve to stop sending gas to burner.
So in our project we will be making an add-on kit for gas geyser to make it more efficient, safer and easy to use.
Project Objectives1) To reduce gas bills but turning the geyser on only when it is required.
2) To make it safer to use by giving it a remote control through iot.
3) To fight pollution.
4) To reduce energy wastage.
Project Implementation MethodAs we know the electric tank-less geyser utilizes a lot of electricity we will be making an electric gas tank geyser, we will be using the same sg30 tank geyser but will make an add-on kit for it that works on battery. The geyser turns on when required and it turns off when it is not, with a push of button, remotely. There will be conditional monitoring for temperature, flame status, gas leakage, and presence of water.
We will be using sensors and actuators; with the help of temperature sensor we can control the solenoid valve attached to the gas line the feedback of sensor will be used to cut off or supply gas.
With the help of flame sensor, we can control how long the spark igniter has to stay on till the burner lights up.
With the help of iot we can turn the geyser on and set the temperature to our desired range remotely, at the same time we will be monitoring all the sensor statuses.
Benefits of the Project1) lesser gas bills.
2) lesser pollution than the previous sg30 model.
3) safer and convenient to use.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThis proposal presents the Modified Version of conventional gas geyser to maximize the Efficiency and Reduce Heat Loss. A conventional gas geyser that requires a copper coil through which water is made to pass, the main objective is to arrest all the Heat Energy obtained after burning the fuel.
