The technical and user points of view are seldom presented side by side. Robotics is, by its nature, multi-disciplinary. With our proposed approach, we aim to extend the borders of the robotic community by showing how synergies can create meaningful cross-disciplinary dialogue. Ultimately, the common goal is to develop human-oriented domestic robot that enable meaningful human-robot interaction (HRI) and have the potential to improve people's quality of life.
A robotic vacuum cleaner is an autonomous electronic device that is intelligently programmed to clean a specific area through a vacuum cleaning assembly. Some of the available products can clean the room but are unable to clean the corners. Today’s robotic technologies are mainly driven by the technical challenges arising when a mobile robot has to perform a speci?c task in a loosely de?ned environment. With technological progress, robotic vacuum cleaners (along with other domestic appliances) are now becoming widely available. The time has come to take these topics into account when considering the design of future robots, as it appears essential to integrate the user into the design loop to advance these products further.
The main objectives of the project are listed below:
- To provide a substantial solution to the problem of manual vacuum cleaners and designing a low cost robot vacuum cleaner.
- To develop an algorithm that can clean the corners effectively.
- To implement and design the hardware of the Smart Floor Cleaning Robot.
- To implement the self driving and colllision avoidance technology using RPLIDAR sensor.
- To provide a device with higher battery capacity and fast charging components.
The base of the body will comprises of metallic sheet, two 12V low rpm gear motors by pittman along with Te?on tires having O-rings on them for avoiding friction, , aluminum angular brackets and aluminum holders for lipo battery of 14.8V and 5.0Ah rating. These motors are independently powered and mounted diagonally with chain combination with a tank like mechanism so that robot can move along its axis easily and bear more weight as compared to ball castors mechanism.
Cleaning assembly includes a DC Suction pump, a DUST sensor and dirt compartment. All components will be installed in the internal side of robotic kit that center of gravity should be lower and robot would be stable.
The RPLIDAR Scanner will be placed on top of the robot to get the maximum visionary range to detect the obstacle all around.
Benefits of the ProjectSmart Floor Cleaning Robot will be designed for the floor cleaning. In this work, “Smart Floor Cleaning Robot” will be designed for rooms, offices, halls (e.g. mosque halls, hotel halls), lobbies (e.g. hospital lobbies) where major obstacles are on the corners or at the sides.
Moreover, Smart Floor Cleaning Robot will be designed to clean the corners of room more precisely and accurately. This will improve the cleaning process effectively. Also, the robot will be designed in such a way that the robot itself will be saved from falling from declines and getting damaged. The durable and smarter design of the project will enable it to reach corners. Hence, less supervision will be required.
According to a latest report by Islamabad police most of the house thefts have been conducted by the housemaids, so introducing a new and cheaper technology such as our household and domestic appliance i.e. Smart Floor Cleaning Robot I can predict that in near future we will see an obvious decrease in thefts as well by using such technology.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final deliverable will be a prototype of a Smart Floor Cleaning Robot capable of detecting the room dimensions especially corners using the latest RPLIDAR Technology of self driving and collision avoidance vehicles/robots. Following is the detail of technologies used to produce the final deliverable.
- Android App Control (Bluetooth Device with Bluetooth Controlled Android App capable of performing more than 25 different operations including robot speed control).
- Self Assesment & Movement using Light Detection & Ranging Technology.
- High Performance Battery Efficient Device using the latest LIPO batteries with standby time of 72 Hours and Working time of 2.5 Hours.
- Automatic Dust Detection using Dust Sensor and Suction using low Voltage Negative Pressure Dust Suction.
