Project Summary

Different eye diseases are nowadays becoming the cause of vision impairment or total blindness if not detected and cured at early stages. Secondly it is a costly solution to visit an ophthalmologist and is time consuming. Smart Eyecare system is an android application which will be deployed for providing eye screening in remote areas where costly machines are not available. The application will provide detection of eye diseases like cataract, Retinoblastoma, Glaucoma and Diabetic Retinopathy. This application will also be helpful in conducting vision test. The system will also provide precautions of detected disease.

Project Objectives

  • To provide a cost-effective solution for disease detection and vision test
  • To provide vision screening in underprivileged areas

Project Implementation Method

Android application platform is used to develop the application/system with following languages and technologies.

  • JAVA (backend)
  • XML (frontend)
  • Data Collection (for training and testing machine learning model)
  • Data preprocessing (Scaling and normalization)
  • Model Training
  • Model Testing

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Final deliverable includes the android application which will detect eye diseases like Cataract, Glaucoma, Retinoblastoma and Diabetic Retinopathy with the help of fundus photography done by mobile camera along with attached ophthalmic lens. Precautions regrading the detected disease will be provided also.

There is another module for conducting vision test which will show some predefined alphabet character of specific size. User will recognize and after 3 seconds user will choose from multiple options the character what he/she has recognized.
