Smart Combat Helmet For Soldiers
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryWe present a design for soldiers combat helmet. The system is composed of a real time audio/video transmission and reception system. It is necessary to continuously monitor the field and the health of a soldier. In this system, we have encorporated the features of GPS, heart beat and temperature. The proposed model is more efficient and flexible. It will be a solution to variety of threats and will provide a secure edge to the military
Project ObjectivesThe objective is to design and develop a combat helmet for military operations, which is divided in to three parts: health monitoring, wireless audio video transmission and reception and position tracking.
Project Implementation MethodHealth monitoring consists of monitoring heart beat and temperature. It comprises of heart beat sensor SEN11574 which measures the heart rate using the principle of photo plethysmography. The temperature sensor DS18B20, temperature readings indicate the temperature of the device. Both these sensors are interfaced with arduino and thrie output to be displayed uisng wireless sensor on LCD.
Position tracking comprises of GPS module NEO6MV2-GPS is also interfaced with mcrocontroller and its output to be displayed on serial monitor.
For wireless video transmission RF transceiver is used which is a blend of a transmitter and a receiver in a single package. We are using CCTV camera to caputre live visuals.
Benefits of the ProjectIn modern warfare there are a variety of threats to army, it is necessary to continuously monitor the field, keep the track record of soldiers’ health and trace their position/location.The health monitoring system is one of the trendy areas in research. In the critical cases generally, soldiers are supposed to be monitored continuously for their heart rate as well as temperature. In the proposed system we are using a novel idea of continuously monitoring soldiers’ health condition.
The proposed system focuses on reducing the hectic schedule to continuously monitor person’s health and is effective since it reduces the medical error and increases the flexibility of medical staff. The goal is to monitor soldier’s health i.e. Heart beat, temperature and send to base station using wireless module to keep the general updated about the soldier’s health condition.
GPS technology is an excellent method to keep record of the soldier location, can predict if the soldiers are in danger zone (enemy area).
Video will be transmition to the base station will aid the commander sitting in the base station so he can have the clear vision of the battle ground, this technique will be helpful in effective planning of next strategy.
Technical Details of Final Deliverable•Temperature sensor( DS18B20)
•Pulse sensor (SEN11574)
•GPS ((NEO6MV2-GPS)
•Camera (CCTV)
•Arduino (Nano)
Pulse sensor ,temperature sensor and GPS are interfaced with Arduino ,their data would be transmitted wirelessly to base station Output of pulse and temperature sensor to be displayed on LCD and that of GPS on serial monitor .
The video is transmitted using Wireless CCTV camera to the base station n a TV set or laptop.
The system comprises of heart beat sensor SEN11574 which measures the heart rate using the principle of photo plethysmography. It measures the change in volume of blood through any organ of the body which causes a change in the light intensity. The flow of blood volume is decided by the rate of heart pulses and since light is absorbed by blood.
The temperature sensor used in the project is DS18B20, temperature readings indicate the temperature of the device. The DS18B20 communicates over a 1-Wire bus that by definition requires only one data line (and ground) for communication with a microprocessor. In addition, the DS18B20 can derive power directly from the data line (“parasite power”), eliminating the need for an external power supply.
The GPS module NEO6MV2-GPS uses a satellite-based navigation system with a network of 24 satellites in orbit around the earth to provide position information. GPS satellites continuously transmit data about their current time and position. A GPS receiver monitors multiple satellites and solves equations to determine the precise position of the receiver.
For wireless video transmission RF transceiver is used which is a blend of a transmitter and a receiver in a single package. The transceivers are designed to let reception of signals through transmission periods. This mode is called as full duplex, and needs that the transmitter (TX) and receiver (RX) work on considerably different frequencies so the signal which is transmitted doesn’t interfere with reception. Communication devices sets use this mode
