In past the traditional endoscopy method was used to examine and detect abnormalities like ulcers, lesion and polyps. The problem with traditional endoscopy was that it not only caused discomfort to the patient but was limited only to the large intestinal region examination. Small intestinal region, the longest part of digestive system was unable to be examined by that method. Moreover, the traditional endoscopy was to be performed very carefully. The physician needed to be technically very skillful and accurate, because the navigation of the endoscope was really hard, and any careless move could damage the intestinal tissues.

In year 2000 the capsule endoscopy introduced, a small swallow able capsule device with camera, sensors and LEDs in its tip, which solved many of the limitations of traditional endoscopy like reaching the whole regions of gastrointestinal tract and with less risk of tissue damage of the patient. When the patient swallows the CE device, it starts transmitting the images about 6 to 8 hours. Which results in 50,000 to 70,000 frames and that requires about 90 to 120 minutes to review the video captured with full attention even for the experienced reviewers. That is because they have to inspect each frame, and the problem is most of the frames are identical and lack the interesting regions of lesions. Obviously this is very difficult and hectic task.

Project Objectives

The system we are working on is a health based hospital system (web based system) that will perform automated lesion detection of wireless capsule endoscopy through image processing techniques. This proposed system will enable hospitals to automate medical testing and generation of medical test report results at run time.The proposed system is a Web Application which will address all the problems of WCE related to the time consuming manual reviews that are very hectic and hard for the physician to review, we want to develop a methodology that can automatically detect the lesions more efficiently and reduce the time spent on reviewing each frame manually.

Project Implementation Method

The System shall use MATLAB for DATA Training and processing.

The user should have basic knowledge of Computers and internet.

The System shall use current corporate standard Mongo dB database or MySQL.

The System shall use current corporate standard node.js server.

Benefits of the Project

The proposed system is a Web Application which will address all the problems of WCE related to the time consuming manual reviews that are very hectic and hard for the physician to review, we want to develop a methodology that can automatically detect the lesions more efficiently and reduce the time spent on reviewing each frame manually.

In this system there will be complete procedure of endoscopy patient will be enabled to see the schedule of different doctor’s with their qualification and other information at home so they can decide better for themselves the system will maintain user’s complete profile and his/her complete history. The doctor will also have a profile where doctors can view their patients. When a doctor will prescribe endoscopy to a patient, he will get an appointment for endoscopy through his/her profile then after that test will be conducted and there will be image processing in which first preprocessing will be done where noise in the image will be removed after that image enhancement will be done then different segments of the picture will be identified. Different features will be extracted for learning of the system for future detection.
