Smart Building Fire Fighting System Automation and Temperature Monitoring
Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryAccording to WHO approximately 180,000 deaths are caused by fire burns every year in low-middle income countries. In Pakistan, electric wires and short circuits are the root cause of many fire incidents.
In case of a fire outbreak, the fire brigade is unable to reach on time and examine the situation. All structure consists of RCC and steel structures. When fire breakouts due to electric wire or short circuit these structures lose their strengths and cause severe property damages and live losses. This project is a remedial step to save both property and life losses by structural health monitoring and an early warning system. Most of cases the fire are caused due to unsafe internal or external wiring or short circuit. As per “Pakistan's independent daily newspaper” nearly 2300 fire incidents occurred in 2021. The fire hazard is a serious threat to economic loss and life losses and the threat is increasing day by day. Unfortunately, the threat of fire hazards is not considered seriously in Pakistan.
Smart fire safety is not possible without the help of IoT and the construction industry. There is a dire need for infrastructure to withstand fire hazards in big cities in Pakistan. The main purpose of this project is to monitor the Structure's health and gives an early warning fire alert through mobile, laptop, tablet etc. In case of any fire outbreak, either RC Structure or steel Structure deteriorates and decreases its strength and may collapse without giving a warning causing life losses and property damages.

The project will be a great initiative towards smart city infrastructure and will save lives of people and minimize property loss. Hence following are the three main objectives:
- To conduct standard Structural member tests as per ASTM laboratory to test of the building member after the fire to exposures.
- To develop Finite element modeling using ABAQUS and identify the failure response under fire.
- To automate an early warning system and damage assessment using IoT.
- To prepare and cast structural member
- To assess the damage using FEM and identity the failure criteria using ABAQUS.
- To perform Real Fire Test including compressive strength and Tensile strength test under different fire conditions.
- Modeling and Analysis structural member using FEM Software
- Validation experimental data through ABAQUS software.
- To generate coding using MATLAB and testing the codes.
- At the end successfully generate a Smart Building Fire Alarming or Automation

- In Pakistan, electric wires and short circuits are the root cause of many fire incidents. In case of a fire outbreak, the fire brigade is unable to reach on time and to examine the situation.
- The main purpose of the project is to monitor the structural health of whether to enter in the building or not and gives an early warning alarm
- However, the structure losses its strength after catching fire, this will help engineers to assess the remaining structural strength of the member.
- The project will be a great initiative toward smart city infrastructure and will save the lives of people and minimize property loss.
This project will deliver a cheap health monitoring system that can generate an early warning alarm and damage assessment directly to the owner through mobile, Laptop etc. moreover it will identify the residual structural strength of the structural member.
