SMART BLIND STICK FOR BLINDS
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThis paper describes ultrasonic blind walking stick with the use of Arduino. According to WHO, 30 million peoples are permanently blind and 285 billion peoples with vision impairment. If u notice them, you can very well know about it they can’t walk without the help of others. One has to ask guidance to reach their destination. They have to face more struggles in their life daily life. Using this blind stick, a person can walk more confidently. This stick detects the object in front of the person and gives the response to the user either by vibrating or through command. So, the person can walk without any fear. This device will be the best solution to overcome their difficulties.
Project ObjectivesThe main objectives of the project are here
- The ultrasonic sensor is used to detect the presence of an obstacle and calculates the distance between the source and destination.
- The light sensor is used to detect the presence or absence of light.
- The water sensor is used to detect the presence of water.
- Anti-theft protection.
- Warning through voice and vibration.
We here propose an advanced blind stick that allows visually challenged people to navigate with ease using advanced technology. The blind stick is integrated with the ultrasonic sensor along with light and water sensing. Our proposed project first uses ultrasonic sensors to detect obstacles ahead using ultrasonic waves. On sensing obstacles the sensor passes this data to the Arduino Uno. The Arduino Uno then processes this data and calculates if the obstacle is close enough. If the obstacle is not that close the circuit does nothing. If the obstacle is close the Arduino Uno sends a warning in the form of voice. It also detects and sounds a different buzzer if it detects water and alerts the blind. The stick also includes the vibrator. If the obstacle is close the Arduino UNO sends a warning through vibration. Water detection is done by a water sensor. One more feature is that it allows the blind to detect if there is light or darkness in the room. The system has one more advanced feature integrated to help the blind find their stick if they forget where they kept it. A wireless RF-based remote is used for this purpose. Pressing the remote button sounds a buzzer on the stick which helps the blind person to find their stick.
Benefits of the ProjectThe main advantage of the system is that it helps the blind people in both indoor and outdoor, care-free navigation. The devices placed in the stick makes it comfortable and easy to handle. The smart stick helps in detecting obstacles placed at a distance in front of the user. The system is suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. The information regarding obstacles is given through voice alerts, eliminates the difficulty of understanding vibration patterns which were used in earlier systems. The system is a moderate budget mobile navigational aid for the visually impaired.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe Blind Walking Stick has been finally made into a prototype that can be used to guide the blind. Its aims to solve the problems faced by blind people in their daily life. The system also takes the measure to ensure their safety. This project will operate to help all the blind people in the world to make them easier to walk everywhere they want. It was done to help the blind to move in front very well. It is used to help people with disabilities that are blind to facilitate the movement and increase safety.
