Slaughtered meat checking machine
Project Area of Specialization Biomedical EngineeringProject Summarywonderful source of high quality
proteins for human bodies is the meat. However, it may be harmful if
precautions are not taken to preserve the meat hygienically.
One of the important factors relates the health of meat is the
amount of residual blood following animal death. Eating
properly slaughtered meat(less blood) is safe and less harmful
for humans. Currently, there is no device available to
differentiate between properly slaughtered and non slaughtered
meat. This project describes the analysis of capacitive variation
in different types of slaughtered and non slaughtered meats.
The proposed model of the meat sample is used, and the
relative permittivity and capacitance of slaughtered and
non slaughtered meat will be theoretically calculated for
different blood volumes. There is an inverse variation between
the permittivity and the amount of blood in the meat sample.
The capacitance of the properly slaughtered meat will be greater than that of improperly slaughtered meat and the
relative permittivity will be observed to follow a linear relation
with the capacitance of meat. These variations in measurement
could be used to differentiate properly slaughtered (less blood)
meat from the improperly slaughtered (large volume of blood)
one.
Project Objectives
The demand of recent time is low fat, safe, healthy and fresh meat
without addition of artificial preservatives whereas meat is the edible part of the skeletal muscle on an animal
that is healthy at the time of slaughter. To
fulfill above demands, meat should have low levels of blood,
which can readily be achieved by proper slaughtering of
animals. The specific objective of this project is to design and fabricate a device to recognize the properly slaughtered(hygienic) meat.

be connected using LCR clip test leads. Dielectric properties of the meat sample are affected by theblood content in the meat, and these dielectric properties would be measured by the connected LCR meter
.
The parallel plate capacitor technique will be used in this project. In which two parallel platinum plates will be used toconstruct the capacitor as shown in Fig. 1. Meat sample will be inserted between the two plates, and LCR meter which act as anenergy source and meter willdevice
The parallel plate capacitor will be designed using platinum, acrylic material, screws, ruler, paste and copper wires. Thethickness of the platinum used is 0.05 mm and the plates will be shaped in a circular disc of diameter 2.5 cm. The platinum plates will be to construct the parallel plates for many reasons which relate to its characteristics: the resistance of platinum to theoxidation and sulfidization results in circuit reliability and stability. Platinum is very resistive to corrosion which makes itsuitable to be used as electrodes in laboratory its ductility and malleability make it flexible to be connected to wires.
Benefits of the Project.
It is requirement of the modern age to supplyhygienic meat, this device will be used to identify hygienicmeat

ImpedanceAnalyzer
Agilent PN 4294A (40Hz-110 MHz) will be used to
measure the capacitance and the loss factor of the meat
sample. Agilent PN 4294 Impedance
analyzer connected to the HP 16451B Dielectric test
fixture.HP 16451B Dielectric test fixture has four disc shaped
electrodes; A, B, C and D, these electrodes differ from each
other in diameter and the method used to measure dielectric
properties of the Material Under Test (MUT). Electrode B
shall be used to measure the meat capacitance and loss
factor.
