Silent Speech
Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject SummaryIn todays digitally noisy world, the line between your digital existence and physical existence is thinning out day by day. Every year some groundbreaking technology is out in the market that outsmarts the previous ones. Such is the technology we aim to create.
Our interaction with world depends mostly on verbal communication and to use a computing device we must shift our attention from the real world and perform our required task that too at the risk of our privacy.
What if we were able to efficiently and unnoticeably interface with the computing devices around us without unplugging from our natural environments? Our proposed device will enable a user the power of command and acquiring information without the traditional means and will enable humans to communicate with intelligence
Project ObjectivesObjective is to change the way humans communicate with each other and transform their daily life interaction with peripheral devices around them by enabling a silent and soundless communication. Possibly help people with speech impairments.
Project Implementation MethodThe silent speech device would compose of a device that reads the data off the user’s body, a piece of hardware to transmit that data, an AI model that would process that data and predict the silent words spoken and finally a text output ready to be used for several applications.
Basically a combination of hardware and software to process electrophysiological signals to detect the words spoken by the user.
Since the project is an innovative one, the system architecture diagram will be robust and susceptible to change with time. A basic working model is displayed below:

This device opens up a wide range of possibilities. It allows a human user to connect to the Internet, and access the knowledge of the web in real-time as an extension of the user’s self; a user could internally vocalize a Google query and get a resultant answer through the headphones without any observable action at all.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe project is divided into four quarters and following are the details:
- Quarter 1 - Hardware Components Assembling:
- In this quarter we will gather the hardware related to our desired need which will include components like electrodes to capture the electric signals and bone conduction earphones.
- Then we will assemble everything and start testing and extracting the data from human neurons with the help of myoneural science.
- Quarter 2 - Data Prepration and ETL
- In this quarter we will create the dataset with multiple users and do statistical analysis on it to clean the signals extracted from the neurons, and make our words dictionary by mapping words on to those signals.
- Quarter 3 - IoT Device Configuration
- In this quarter we will start training model and flash that model in our device or make an API which will send those signals to the cloud to do the processing work faster and make it more efficient. Then we will establish a way of communication to our IoT device with some other IoT devices like smartphones or sensors etc.
- Quarter 4 - Evaluation and Delivery of Work
- In this quarter we will evaluate our model and try to hyper tune it for better accuracy and deliver our final device which can translate some basic signals for initial.
