SCADA Based Water Filtering and Supply System
The fast population growth needs to provide clean water that meets human requirements. The purpose of our project is to monitor and control the supply of water with the help of SCADA. Basically our project is based on SCADA, so all the functions will control by SCADA. SCADA is actually Supervisory Control Data and Acquisition. The First process that is done in this project is, the raw water is taken through Canal, and then it is stored in a tank where the level sensor is installed and that is controlled through the controller that senses the level of the tank. A solenoid valve is connected before the tanks. The output of the tank is the input of the pump where a flow sensor is installed at the output of pump for checking the flow rate of water then this water will enter in another tank where Aluminum Sulphate is added according to the proportionality, the purpose of this process is to filter the microscopic impurity from the water.
After this process, the water is stored in another tank to check the pH of the water through the pH sensor. After this process, the lime is added in this chamber with the controller when pH is in our desired range and safe to use the water then the water is moved in the next process that is the chlorination process where chlorine is injected in the water. The purpose of chlorine is to kill the bacteria and the water is moved into the treated water tank so this the final step of our project after this the filtered water is distributed to our desired destination for drinking and usage purposes.
The main objectives of this project are:

First of all, take raw water and then store it in a tank where full level sensors will be installed. When the tank will fill then the controller will start pumping the water to the next tank. The controller will also open the solenoid valve which will remain open until the filtration tank is completely filled. When the tank will be filled then the filtration process will start. The controller will add the calculated amount of Aluminum Sulphate in order to separate the microscope particles from water. Aluminum sulfate solution will be stirred through the motor which will run for the calculated time. Then, the controller will add the calculated amount of polymer. The polymer is a bonding agent that will make the cluster of the microscopic particles and settled down at the bottom of the tank. Then the motor will start again and stir the water again for the calculated time. The cluster of dust will settle at the bottom of the tank and then the clean water will be pumped to the third and the last tank through the controller. Then the suction pump will clear the filtration tank and the dirt will be removed.
In the third tank, the PH of the raw water will be checked and if it’s less than 6.5 then the lime will be added by the controller and the motor will stir the water in the third tank for the calculated time. Then the PH will be checked again to check if the water is close to the PH of drinking water. Then the controller will add hypochlorite in the tank to kill the bacteria so the water will be drinkable. The controller will start the motor again to stir the solution for the calculated time. The water is now ready for drinking and the controller will open the last valve and the last tank will get empty.
Note: The chlorine gas couldn’t be used because it is too dangerous to use. So instead of chlorine gas, hypochlorite will be used to clean the water from bacteria. SCADA will be controlling the whole procedure. Two sensors that are being used gives an analog output. To convert the analog signal to a digital signal, PIC will be used. The type of PLC used in this project can only recognize digital output.
When the water will be completely filtered then it will first test and then use for drinking purposes. SCADA will monitor the water in order to transfer it toward the desired location by performing the on, off functionality on the solenoid valve that will be placed on the output of the whole project. SCADA is the actually the mimic of the whole project so we can see the whole plant animation on it and with the help of this animation we will monitor the water means how much water will be supplied it depends on the availability of water that will be showed on SCADA, it will show the current values of all sensors. It will also help in order to manage how much water will be supplied in each location for how long by displaying the timer on the screen.
