Project Title

RFID based Security and Home Automation System using FPGA

Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject Summary

Project Summary:

Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based security system can be used as a door lock in hotels, banks and everywhere etc. When a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID) tag is scanned by an its reader, the door lock will open if the tag information is already stored in the database of microcontroller (FPGA), otherwise alarm will ring. Moreover after opening the door lock, light or fan will automatically be turned on according to the need of that specific user. This project is a combination of two features i.e.; security and automation. Both features are basic need of market. Our project can be commercialized in hotels, restaurants, schools, colleges, universities and many other places.

Project Objectives

Project Objectives:

Write down the tasks you will perform during the course of your final year project duration.

Replacement of wired (complicated)  system with wireless technology

Home/office/industrial automation

To overcome the security threats

Advancement in security standards

To promote parallel processing of tasks

Project Implementation Method

Project Implementation Method:

FPGA:

Stands for "Field-Programmable Gate Array." An FPGA is an integrated circuit that can be customized for a specific application. Unlike traditional CPUs, FGPAs are "field-programmable," meaning they can be configured by the user after manufacturing.

FPGAs contain programmable logic blocks that can be wired in different configurations. These blocks create a physical array of logic gates that can be used to perform different operations. Because the gates are customizable, FPGAs can be optimized for any computing task.

RFID tags:

RFID tags are a type of tracking system that uses smart barcodes in order to identify items. RFID is short for “radio frequency identification,” and as such, RFID tags utilize radio frequency technology.

RFID Reader:

A radio frequency identification reader (RFID reader) is a device used to gather information from RFID tag , which is used to track individual objects. It uses radio waves to transfer data from tag to reader. Through this device we are going to scan a RFID tag.

ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module:

It is also known as Node MCU. It is mainly used for IOT. It is very used to provide internet connectivity to projects . It is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all wi-fi networking functions from another application processor. Through this device we are going to send notifications to cellular devices.

SIM 900 GSM Module:

The global system for mobile communication (GSM) is used to send sms and data with low power consumption . It can be embedded in the customer applications. Through this device we are going to send messages over sim.

Relay Board:

Relays are switches that open and close circuits electromechanically . Relays control one electrical circuit by opening and closing contacts in another circuits.

Benefits of the Project

Benefits of the Project:

Parallel processing

Need of industry

Faster time-to-market

No upfront non-recurring expenses (NRE)

Simpler design cycle

More predictable project cycle

Field program ability

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Technical Details of Final Deliverable:

The information of some RFID tags will be stored in the database of FPGA.

Firstly, an RFID tag will be scanned by a RFID reader.

If the tag information matches with the pre stored information in the database then the lock will open.

If it not matches then alarm will ring.

After opening the lock, the FPGA will send a notification to cellular phone by using WIFI technology for the purpose of further security.

Moreover, after opening the lock, light and fan will automatically be turn on according to the need of that specific person,

The intensity of light and speed of fan can also be control through cellular phone.
