RFID Based Library Automation System for Air University Library
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryThis project a RFID based Automation System for Air University library is based on
the system that transfers information of the object wirelessly (electromagnetic waves).
This project report proposes the total flow of library system; as it includes the software
and hardware part (both). This system involves many features; simplifying the issuance
and returning of book, searching book location, knowing availability of a book, no
manually keeping records, and there is a system that detects the unauthorized/unissued
book taken out of the library. And these all features will be implemented through RFID
reader, RFID passive tags, application (cell phone), Database (library PC). The RFID
reader is wirelessly programmed to search for the specific book or information through
an application. The reader then goes through the database and notifies the user about
the shelf and rack the book is placed in. RFID systems can distinguish between many
different tags placed in the same location without human help and support.
RFID based self-issuing and self-returning of the books.
Cloud(and WIFI) based record keeping of books.
Virtual book location search and pre-reservation.
Web and android based user interface.
Implementation of efficient book search algorithm.
Project Implementation MethodThe working of the proposed project in the library.A person enters in library and searches for a specific book. A person will open that developed application in his or her cellphone and login the library application and search book by
its name and in that application many books will appear in search window with same name and person will select his or her desired book and then by clicking that book there
will appear a screen and if the book is available in the library there will be Available written and if the book is not present in the library as issued by someone else then Not available will be written. This book searching process includes the mentioned internal communication between the components. As the books data will be stored in the database (PC) and in the EEPROM which will be inserted in the RFID reader.
Now, if person clicks the search option then the command will be send to the RFID reader which will be attached to that specific shelf in which that searched book will be placed, through the Wi-Fi module, which will be attached with the RFID reader prototype. And as the Wi-Fi module will be activated in the RFID reader, the antenna in the reader will send radio frequency signal to the antenna of the RFID tag that is attached with the book (every book in the library will contain a RFID tag with a unique ID). If the book is not available in the library then the person will be left with two options; search another book or leaving the library. And if the book is available then the person will search for the book and through the system, a person will get to know the location
of the book. And if the person wants to issue the book, person will click the issue option on his library application and without going to the librarian and without going
through the manual process of issuing a book, a person will self-issue the book and a notification will appear on the librarian PC (server), that XYZ (persons name) with 123456 (persons university ID) has issued ABC (Books name) with 123456 (RFID tag ID). This data, in which person who issued the book and book name and ID shall also be saved in the database. And when the person will be leaving the library if he
didnât issue the book then the theft alarm will ring and if he has issued the book then
he will easily pass the leaving gate. Here at this part of the project RFID detection system will be installed. And whenever that persons wants to return the book he or she
will come in the library and log in the University library app and return the book by clicking on the return option and again a notification will appear on the librarian PC (server), that XYZ (personâs name) with 123456 (person s university ID) has returned ABC (Books name) with 123456 (RFID tag ID). And when the book will be returned by a person, in the database that personâs name and ID and bookâs name and ID shall
be removed.
