Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryA generator is like any other engine, it needs maintenance. Generators, all too often are set up and left, and you only know it’s broken when you need it the most. Generators in remote locations are even more critical to monitor and ensure they are always ready to supply backup power whenever called upon.
To solve this problem, a system will be implanted on the generator that would be comprising of different sensors. The real time data will be collected and sent to the app. This app would be user friendly and will tell the present condition of the generator. Further, it will alert the user when there is need of maintenance.
Project ObjectivesThe objective of our project is to design a system that will examine the different parameters of generator. We will design a cost-effective system that measures real time data of generator notifying when there is need of maintenance. We will design a system that is well constrained, flexible and offers the service anywhere and anytime. We will develop an android app that continuously track the health of generator and alert the user every time when there is need of maintenance.
Project Implementation MethodFirstly, we will mount sensors on a generator. These sensors includes: vibration sensor, temperature sensor, current sensor, voltage sensor, flow sensor, exhaust sensor and flow sensor. We will mount each type of sensor on different parts on the generator and get their average value.
The real time data of these sensors will be transferred to our mobile application through WiFi module.
Real time monitoring and preventive maintenance scheduling will be done on the android application. In case maintenance is required, an alert will be given to the user.
Benefits of the ProjectWith this project, we will try to minimize the major difficulties on operating the generator. The faults that are costly and results in loss of service will be prevented.
With regular maintenance we can avoid such problems, like clogging of fuel injectors, and stop them from permanently damaging our generator.
Optimum efficiency will be achieved, if our generator is properly serviced. Also, a more efficient system will help you to save money on diesel especially if the electricity is down for a prolonged period of time.
If maintenance of your generator is ignored for too long, it will end up with costly repairs in the long run. You might even have to replace your whole generator unit. So it can help prevent faults that are costly and results in loss of service.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableIt will be a system of total seven types of sensors that will be mounted on generator. These sensors will be mounted on different places over generator.
The data from sensors will be sent to the android application through nodemcu esp8266 module. On the android application, we'll be able to see the real time reading of these sensors. In case there is a need of maintenance, an alert will be generated on application.
This android application can be accessed by the registered person only.
