As we know that people around the world faces many different problems and the water crises is the number one global risk based on the impact on society. Secondly many people around the world have lack access to safe water like in Thar(PAKISTAN). Thirdly if we look toward the impact of unsafe water toward society then a disease called diarrhea, typhoid, giardiasis, intestinal worm, gastroenteritis and many more is caused by drinking inadequate or unsafe water. According to research unsafe water kills nearly 200 children per day.
A solution in this regard is very important. Toward the solution in this regard our project “REAL-TIME SMART WATER DISPENSER” focuses on the above mentioned problems. The proposed project will monitor the quality of water at real time and will provide suggestion that where and how to use the water if it is unsafe. The proposed system is combination of different hardware’s and software’s. The hardware part consists of sensors (that will sense the quality parameters of water like temperature, turbidity and acidity or basicity), a processing unit like Arduino board normally called as microcontroller, a power source that will provide 5V power, LCD display which act as an interface. furthermore we will try to explore the proposed system with blynk.
Project ObjectivesThis project will achieve many goals and objectives like monitoring water quality at real time, reduce water shortage, prevent water related diseases, and will provide suggestion that where to use water in the water dispenser if it is unsafe. Now the question is that how to achieve these goals ?. So in order to achieve these goals I will make better utilization of sensors that sense the quality parameters (temperature, pH, turbidity) of water at real-time, circuit board that process all these parameters and provide suggestion at real time. As well as we will try to explore the given system with blynk.
Project Implementation MethodIn order to better understand the architecture and environment of the proposed project I am going to present a block diagram. Actually the proposed system has two parts hardware and software. The hardware part contains power source, sensors, display and Arduino which consists of both circuit board often referred as micro-controller and a piece of software or IDE that runs on a computer and it is used to write and upload code to the physical board.
Different types of hardware’s and software’s will be used in this project these will be
ARDUINO
It is an open sourced platform that is used for building electronic projects. It consists of both circuit board often referred as micro-controller and a piece of software or IDE that runs on a computer and it is used to write and upload code to the physical board. In our project the circuit board will collect data from sensors. After data collection the circuit board will be programmed in a way such that it compares the collected data with the WHO standards. After performing comparison, the system will provide report that whether the water is safe for drinking or not, if not then where to use the unsafe water.
PH SENSOR
pH is the most important parameter of water it indicates the alkanity or acidity of water. Its range is from 0-14 with a neutral point being 7, the value above 7 indicates that the solution is basic and a value below 7 indicates that the solution is acidic. It operates on 5V power supply. A pH sensor will be used in this project for the purpose to measure the pH value of water.
TEMPRATURE SENSOR
Temperature represents the degree of hotness and coolness. A temperature sensor in this project will be use measure the temperature of water at real time. We will try to use digital type temperature sensor to obtain more accurate value.
TURBIDITY SENSOR
Turbidity is the measure of cloudiness of water. It indicates the degree to which the water losses its transparency. It is considered as a good measure of water quality.
USB CABLE
A USB cable will be used in this project to upload code from Arduino IDE to the circuit board. It can also be used to provide 5V power source.
DISPLAY
An LCD display will be used in this project for the purpose to present information provided by the system.
OTHER HARDWARE
Beside the above mentioned hardware’s, jumper wires, 5V power source, and a breadboard may be needed for the accomplishment of this project.
SOFTWARE
We will write our code/sketch/program in the Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment). The source will be written in C or C++ language.

Technical Details of Final DeliverableAs the proposed project “REAL-TIME SMART WATER DISPENSER” will provide information about the quality parameters of water in the water dispenser these parameters includes pH (measure of acidity and basicity), Temperature (measure of hotness and coldness), Turbidity (measure of cloudiness). The most important is that the proposed system will monitor all the quality parameters in real time. Secondly after the monitoring of quality parameters the proposed system will compare these parameters with the World Health Organization standards for safe drinking water for the purpose to inform the user about the condition of water i.e whether it safe or unsafe. The proposed system will also provide suggestion based on the values of quality parameters of water i.e if the values of quality parameters of water deviate from standards then then the proposed system will suggest that where to use these water. This will ensure better utilization of water. So this project will have significant contribution to solve problems related to water specially to prevent waterborne diseases. The final deliverable will be the combination of hardware and software.
