Project Summary

A facial recognition system is a technology capable of identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. There are multiple methods in which facial recognition systems work, but in general, they work by comparing selected facial features from given image with faces within a database. It is also described as a Biometric Artificial Intelligence based application that can uniquely identify a person by analyzing patterns based on the person's facial textures and shape. Compared to other biometric techniques, facial recognition is of a non-contact nature. Face images can be captured from a distance and can be analyzed without ever requiring any interaction with the user/person. As a result, no user can successfully imitate another person. Facial recognition can serve as an excellent security measure for time tracking and attendance. Facial recognition is also cheap technology as there is less processing involved, like in other biometric techniques

Project Objectives

This project involves developing a live facial detection system using CCTV camera for Military college of signals (MCS) in order to verify the uniqueness of the human face by detecting the face pattern from the image/Live footage. The system shall identify chosen individuals to the security system according to an image document in database while using their face pattern on the camera. After registration done, only chosen workers can access the high-level secret floors / rooms, if face recognition can be done correctly. Real Time Facial Recognition (RTFR) System Using CCTV Camera detects and captures an image from a source, sends to Facial Recognition Module for applying different algorithms, matches the result with already saved image and generate a notification in case of success or failure. Facial recognition can serve as an excellent security measure for time tracking and attendance. Facial recognition is also cheap technology as there is less processing involved, like in other biometric techniques. Compared to other biometric techniques, facial recognition is of a non-contact nature. Project Implementation Method

Overall the system contains three different interrelated modules (programs).

Facial Recognition Module

One module, sometimes to be referred as facial module, will operate on images and will store result in the desired table in the database. This module will also be responsible for learning, processing images / people faces and identification provided by admin of the system.

Camera Module

This is related to system camera (ip or network camera) with Motion detection, face detection and face snapping capability. This module will get image from camera when detected and will store in the database for the Facial Recognition module to process it against already learned images and store result in database.

Alert/Notification Module

This module will be responsible for generating and sending Alarm/Notification or any other intended command after receiving it from Facial Recognition Module. The same will routed to admin / specific persons.

Hardware Implementation

System is using the following components integrated with the software developed to make a complete RTFR system.

1. Gsm Module
2. HD Cameras with facial recognition
3. LED Screen
4. Arduino Mini
5. Mobile Set

Benefits of the Project

The main benefit of the project is to develop a mobile and system to support, enable and facilitate various activities with regard to managing the security of MCS (Military College of Signals) , detecting the facial features of a person  based on data stored in the database, notifying the current state to the security officer and dealing with the entry of honorable guests. This will lessen n the manual burden on the staff. Moreover, it will enhance the security of MCS to a modernized and automated dimension.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Following are the technical details of the final deliverable of Real Time Facial Recognition System (RFTR)

• Camera will be installed at the entrance of sensitive installations
• System will detect the motion and facial features of any person
• Camera module will pass on the data to Facial Recognition module for matching it with already stored images in the database
• In case of a hit the facial recognition module will generate a message accordingly
• Automatic message will be sent by the alert/ notification module through GSM modem to all concerned security personnel.
