Project Summary

QAU Air Pollution Monitoring system is an IOT base project.
Air pollution is a growing issue these days. It is necessary to monitor air quality and keep it under control for a better future and healthy living for all.
Here we propose an air pollution monitoring system that allows us to monitor and check live pollution level in a particular area of QAU through IOT.

 System uses air sensors to sense presence of harmful gases/compounds in the air and constantly transmit this data to microcontroller/ Esp8266.  Also reports it to the online server over IOT. The sensors interact with microcontroller which processes this data and transmits it over internet. This allows authorities to monitor air pollution in different areas of QAU and act against it if it is not normal.  Also, authorities can keep a watch on the air pollution, and it alerts authorities danger zone detected so they can take measures to control the issue.
 This system contains multiple sensors for multiple purposes and for the conversion of analog data into digital data. After that this digital data will be directed to Esp8266. Whole data will display through mobile application connected to the system. So that Administration can check and monitor the air pollution at QAU remotely by using smart phone. The point of venture is to screen and control the air contamination utilizing methods in view of Internet of things. The item will be planned and carried out utilizing Android Studio, Arduino. The language utilized for the execution will be Java, C++. The IoT based QAU Air Pollution Monitoring System being proposed through this file is integrated with Arduino Technology combined with exclusive Sensors and a Wi-Fi module producing live data feed.

IoT Sensors have been in use for air pollution monitoring purposes. The approach used earlier, did not offer live statistics. The records are stored inside the memory of sensor for future use. With the advent of IoT in air pollution monitoring, sensors available to be used. Sensors relate to cloud server through gateway.
This system allows to keep  record of real-time statistics and decide accordingly. IoT based QAU Air Pollution Monitoring can assist users for several activities such as monitoring temperature, humidity and the presence of harmful gases in air. The intuition of IoT in air pollution monitoring helps to gain more revenue by making intelligent decisions based on real time records captured by IoT sensors.

Project Objectives

Project Implementation Method

  • Application Front End:
    Front end of this application is implemented on android studio using flutter dart.
  • Application Back End:
    Back end is implemented in Python.

    This project is based on wifi module( Esp8266) is connected with multiplexer, digital sensors, and buzzer.
    All analogue sensors connected with multiplexer.
    Hardware APP Connectivity:
    Implementation for connectivity of app with hardware is done in Aruino IDE using C++ and C Sharp.

    connected with firebase it sends real time data of sensors to firebase using wifi. App is connected to that firebase and app take the realtime data provided by ESP8266 from firebase to display data to user. 

Benefits of the Project

Air Quality Monitoring System is a system that benifits in every field of life. In this particular era in which air pollution is rising day by day it is the need of hour to monitor air quality and air pollution level. 

Monitoring of air pollution provide access to the real time increasing and decreasing of air pollution level. By monitoring we can set target to reduce air pollution and to make air clean and safe.
Also this project help users to monitor air pollution remotely using smart phone.This system alerts people about the dangerous condition which help to make initiative and better decisions.
Monitoring of air pollution help industries to take action accordingly to control and maintan air pollution level.

Moreover it is also necassary to monitor air pollution because rising of air pollution cause different kinds of dangerous deseases. 

So , that the proposed system helps to monitor air pollution easily and efficiently.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

In this Project, the system allows accessing real-time readings from sensors. With the help of this we get to know about the pollution level in air at QAU. For this purpose, we use some IoT devices which are:

  • Carbon dioxide sensor (MQ-135)
  • Carbon monoxide gas sensor (MQ-7)
  • Hydrogen gas sensor (MQ-5)
  • Liquified petroleum gas sensor (MQ-6)
  • Smoke sensor (MQ-2)

    Esp8266
    Esp8266 is an open-supply gadgets stage in view of simple to-utilize equipment and software. Its gatherings can concentrate on inputs-light on a sensor, a finger on a button or a Twitter message-and flip it a result initiating an engine, turning on a LED.
    Temperature/Humidity Sensor:Temperature/humidity sensors sense degree temperature in Celsius and humidity in percentage in the air.
    Carbon dioxide Sensor
    The MQ135 is one of the notable gas sensors from the MQ series of sensors that are for the most part used in air quality and contamination observing gear. It works from 2.5V to 5.0V and can produce analogue as well as digital outcome. MQ-135 Gas sensor can recognize gases like Ammonia (NH3), sulfur (S), Benzene (C6H6), CO2, and other disastrous gases and smoke. In this project we considered MQ-135 as CO2 locator. This sense CO2 in PPM in the air.
    Carbon Monoxide Sensor
    MQ-7 gas sensor detect carbon monoxide with better sensitivity, with a long service period and genuine strength. It has simple result voltage, the higher the focus the higher the voltage. MQ7 sensor has a little radiator inside with an electrochemical sensor to quantify various types of gas blends.
    Hydrogen Sensor
    Hydrogen sensor sense hydrogen in PPM in the air. MQ5 is a delicate gas sensor that can identify or detect hydrogen gas, propane, butane, natural, and other flammable gases in the climate.
    Liquified Petroleum Gas Sensor
    MQ-6 sensor is an easy to-utilize Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) sensor, reasonable for detecting LPG (made from generally propane and butane) fixations in the air. The MQ-6 can identify gas fixations anyplace from 200 to 10000ppm.
    Smoke Sensor
     MQ2 Gas sensor manages 5V DC and draws around 800mW. It can recognize Smoke, Alcohol and other related gases zeros in some place on the scope of 200 to 10000ppm.
    Buzzer
    In this system buzzer is a device that starts beeping when pollutants are rising from sufficient and normal level in the air.
    LCD (Liquid crystal display)
    LCD is a display module in this system. It displays readings of all sensors in 2 lines with white characters on blue background.
    Connecting Wires
    They grant an electrical contemporary to go starting with one point on a circuit then onto the next on the grounds that energy wants a medium through which it can course. The greater part of the interfacing wires is produced using copper or aluminum.
    Software Interface
    The application will run on the Android system. Software application is implemented on Android Studio with flutter.
