Project Title

Printing, investigation and optimization of mechanical properties of Nylon PA12 & Nylon PA12+CF15 filament via FDM

Project Area of Specialization 3D/4D PrintingProject Summary

The project is about the process parameter optimization of Nylon Poly Amide 12 and Nylon Poly amide + Carbon Fiber 15% filaments using RSM (Response Surface Methodology) for 3D through Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). For the current project the selected paramters of interest are,

  1. Infill Density
  2. Raster Width
  3. Layer Thickness

to study the effect on mechanical properties of interest,

  1. Yeild Strength
  2. Tensile Strength
  3. Elastic Modulus

Central Composite Design (CCD) of RSM is selected to study the responses and ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) will be applied to get the optimized parameters after studying the results applying XRD (X ray Diffraction) and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy).

Project Objectives

There are Two main objectives of this project,

  1. 3D printing of Nylon PA12 and Nylon PA12+CF15 samples and Investigation of Mechanical Properties.

  2. Optimization of FDM printing parameters using RSM (Response Surface Methodology for Nylon PA12 and Nylon PA12+CF15.

Project Implementation Method

Nylon is a durable material and has wide range of applications in aerospace industry. Our project is research based and after the successful outcome of results, we will be able to define best range of printing parameters suitable for printing of Nylon Poly Amide to get high tensile strength and elastic modulus.

Benefits of the Project

Based on the outcomes the applications will range from small scale implementation of Nylon printing to large scale production of industrial grade objects made from Nylon PA12 filament and Nylon PA12 + CF15 filaments like,

  1. Engine Hubs
  2. Propellers

That are highly durable and powerful.
