The project is related to PF correction by using the power electronic device IGBT. This STATCOM is microcontroller-based with PWM generation to minimize the time delay as possible. Microcontroller gets the sense of the supply current and voltage by using CT and PT circuit then gives its output to the microcontroller, then microcontroller checks the difference between the reference and sensed voltage and current and generate reactive power and supply to the circuit when needed. The purpose of designing an efficient PF corrector is to minimize the penalty on the industries from the utilities for not maintaining the PF as told by the utility

Project Objectives

Our objective is to save the industry for penalized by the utility on maintaing the power factor, and to reduce the size of accomodation, because capacitor banks required more spaces than STATCOM.

Project Implementation Method

We are using IGBT's and prvide pulse signal to its gate by this method we generate reactive power and inject it into system.

Improvement of power factor correction achieved easily

It occupies a small footprint, for it replaces passive banks of circuit elements by compact electronic converters.

It offers modular, factory-built equipment, thereby reducing site work and commissioning time.

It uses encapsulated electronic converters, thereby minimizing its environmental impact.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Our target is to achive 0.6 to 0.7 power factor atleast on this prototype project.
