Project Title

PLC Based Automatic Car Wash System

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary

The main objective of this project is to performexterior car washing by using programmable logiccontroller. A PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) is adigitally operating electronic apparatus which uses aprogrammable memory for the internal storage ofinstructions by implementing specific functions such aslogic sequencing, timing, counting, and arithmetic tocontrol, through digital or analog input/output modules, various types of machines or processes.PLC sends theinformation like entry and exit of the car and emergencyconditions to the customer (or) operator through alarm. After receiving the information from the PLC, the operatorcan be able to act upon it. Car washing includes spraying ofsoap solution, cleaning with water, wiped by brushes andfinished with the forced air drying. Key words:PLC, AUTOMATIC CAR WASHING, LadderLogic,HORNER PLC.

Project Objectives

? The automatic car washing system will minimizes the use of water and also manpower requirement.
? Cycles of washing includes washing with water, and then with detergent
? Using this automatic car washing system, many cars can be washed and it will save time, energy and manpower. Such systems can be installed anywhere such as malls, airports, railway stations, residential buildings etc.

Introduce local manufacturing of automatic car wash system in Pakistan.

Programmed auto washing framework is extremely regular in created nations. Auto washing framework is typically connected with fuel filling stations. It comprises of vast machines with robotized brushes controlled by project legitimate PLC controllers. Programmed auto washing framework is completely robotized with various phases of frothing, washing, drying and brushing..

Project Implementation Method

1. When the car arrives at the sensor the barrier will open, conveyor belt starts moving because sensor 1 will gives pulse to controller hence controller will activate the conveyor belt which start moving.
2. When the car arrives at the second sensor the conveyor motor stopped. Now this sensor will activate the shampooing motorsprinkles of shampooing water will shower on the car for seven second, after shampooing the car the shampooing motor stopped and activate the conveyor belt motor to proceed the next stage.
3. After the completion of shampooing the car for seven seconds, the conveyor belt start moving again when car arrives at the third sensor the conveyor belt motor willstopped, the PLC will activate the brushing.
4. Brushing is done after some time then again conveyor belt motor activated the conveyor belt to go to fourth stage for the showering the clean water upon the car for some seconds.
5. This is the fifth stage and last stage of the system in this stage after cleaning water for seven seconds stopped the conveyor belt moves again via conveyor motor. The car comes at fifth sensor drying stage activated via drying fan.
After completion of drying of a car now it stopped after seven seconds and conveyorwill activate car moves at exit point.

Benefits of the Project

We concludes from study that “The automatic car washing System” is quite beneficial, and saving time of operation and also man power reduced, improving the economy of the system. In the future such type of automated systems will have more demanded. It has countless applications and can be used in different environments and scenarios.
• Supermarket & malls
• GAS stations& Railway stations& Air ports
• Hotels & Resorts
• Theaters & universities
• Public places & private companies
• Less Area required
• Time requirement is less
• Pollution free Weather friendly
• Man power requirement is less

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

A 230 v AC supply is given to the system (SMPS)  forobtaining 24V, DC supply. HORNER PLC is connected to PC through RS-232 communication cable for running the program. The Conveyor is used for moving the car. We use10 rpm DC motors for driving the conveyor belt and 100rpm motor for driving brushes and fans. The car is properlyplaced on the conveyor belt and the motor for making theconveyor to roll on is turned on and automatically the carplace on the belt will set to move. Here High pressurenozzles are placed at various position for spraying soapsolution and water to clean the vehicle and the brushes areused over instead of cloth for making a gentle clean of the vehicle it does not harm any painted finish and provides agentle polishing effect to leave the paint much shinier. Anda hot air is made to be touched over the car for making thecar to become dry. Construction of this system is dependsupon the requirement of the user and a visual programming language known as the Ladder Logic was used to program the PLC. There are four symbols that are used in Ladder Logic; an Open contact, a closed contact, an open output orrelay coil and a closed output. PLC can also include itemssuch as Counters and Timers for programming.
