Ping Pong Robot

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary

Robots are essential for saving resources by improving the quality of work and saving costs by having a user-friendly environment. They are the dawn of a new era. Robots have different classifications such as Robots in society, service robots, educational purpose robots, general-purpose robots, and industrial robots. As moving day today forward in technologies and automation this works also plays its role in this regard. Ping pong or table tennis is a very famous game at the international level. It requires the participation of two players, but what if one has to practice a lot to become a master in this game. Our work will suggest the solution for this gap as we will be designing a robot that will automatically throw the ping pong ball at a defined speed and variations. Variations are for active difficulty levels. As already there have been different types of modules made in current times and they are very much effective to the point but they are too costly and not readily available. Considering our country’s situation and literacy rate, not every passionate player can afford these machines so our objective is to get this machine to work at the lowest price so an ordinary individual who has a passion to master this game can also have it. This machine is light weighted and easy to operate for anyone. And considering more aspects of automation and time saving, the hatted and rebounded balls will also get collected and refilled automatically by the apparatus of the machine.

Project Objectives

If a game requires two participants to play and one of them is unwilling or unable to play at this time. The robot or machine that is being developed is mostly for table tennis or ping pong games. In this application, the player will be able to play and practise independently, without the need for an opponent or a second player. This robot will serve as a second player. Depending on the motor speed, the robot will toss balls every second. As tossing the ball automatically is the major goal of this effort, therefore for this purpose.

Furthermore, this study demonstrates that it is feasible to construct a Ping pong Robot that can toss a ball every other second at a predetermined pace. Previous versions of this robot can be ignored due to its low cost and small weight. This robot design was created with the intention of being simply inexpensive and manageable by any human. As forthcoming trends, the ping pong robot or table tennis ball launcher will become a costly tag, and it is our primary goal to fill this gap at the lowest possible cost.

Project Implementation Method

A basket affixed to the robot's head can handle 80 - 90 balls at once. A DC motor is installed at the bottom of the basket to move the balls in an orderly manner to the passage gear. Inside the basket is a disc with a connecting shaft that is meant to move one ball at a time. The shaft will be used to link the table tennis ball between the connector and the firing barrel. When the balls reach the point of the servo motor, the ball is thrown out very quickly by employing the attached wheel as an end effector.

The ball will drop on the table tennis table and pitch towards the player. To automatically fill the basket and recoil all the used balls, a large net is placed at the robot end, which catches all the hitting balls and then refills all the balls back into the basket using PVC pipe, a programmable circuit board (often referred to as a microcontroller), IR remote control, and DC Motors, among other things.

Benefits of the Project

The robot or machine being developed is primarily for the game of table tennis or ping pong. The player will be able to play and practice without needing an opponent or a second player with this application. This robot will serve as a backup. Every second, the robot throws a ball. A large net is put at the robot end to automatically fill the basket and recoil all used balls, which captures all striking balls and then refills the basket with all the balls.
As forthcoming trends, the ping pong robot or table tennis ball launcher will become a costly tag, and it is our primary goal to fill this void at the lowest cost possible.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Ping pong Robot is “a programmable multifunctional designed to move connector and shooting Barrel through programmed for the performance of a variety of shots”. The design of this machine will contain a microcontroller. A ball will be thrown by the end effector which is a wheel and pitched towards the player who will be at the other end of the table. Some major components that will be used in our design are a Refilling Pipe, wheel and an end effector, basket,  IR remote, DC motor, etc.
