Pick and Place Robotic Arm
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryOur project "Pick & Place Robotic Arm" is a SCARA robotic arm that is aimed to provide automation to the industry's glove packaging process. The SCARA robotic arm having 4 degrees of freedom mainly comprises of three servo motors that will independently rotate about the required axis, Arduino as microcontroller controlling the servos and end-effector for picking and placing gloves.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our project is to make the industry's glove packaging process cost-effective, automated and efficient. Our project is aimed to minimize the human energy that is currently being consumed at the industry for boxing of gloves, to reduce the chance of human error which is always inherent in the manual work, and to decrease labour cost by replacing labour with robotic arm.
Project Implementation MethodForemost of all, a considerable amount of effort has been put towards project conception & initiation. This includes goals & objectives of the project, research regarding robotic arms, and identifying scope & budget of the project. The next phase that has been reached is the implementation of the proposed design on software. The project at the moment is almost ready for its transition from software to hardware side. For this, different hardware components are being checked or being procured with efficient cost management. When this is achieved, the next phase will be fabrication, interfacing & testing.
Benefits of the ProjectReplacing labour with robotic arm yields plenty of benefits. When robotic arm is employed, the packaging process consumes less time when compared to manual packaging by labour. Employing robotic arm for repetitive tasks like picking & placing yields consistent precision and accuracy. Displacing workers from the tasks that can easily be performed by machines aids in improving cost management for the industry. Faster packaging rate, reduced labour and human energy improve productivity and profitability of the industry. Added to these benefits is the capability of robotic arm to become flexible with respect to its environment. It can be repurposed for other uses by employing different types of end-effectors. Simply put, the robotic arm is not bound to a specific load type; the industry can make use of it for multiple purposes.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe SCARA type Pick & Place Robotic Arm will have its mechanical structure (frame made of steel, links & joints and bearings), three servo motors as actuators, Arduino as microcontroller, and an end effector for picking & placing the load. In its fully manufactured form, the robotic arm will aid the industry in automating its packaging process, make the process more precise & accurate, and increase the productivity of industry.
