Project Summary

As the use of renewable energy is increasing to generate electricity because of its high amount of availability and are friendly to the environment as environment is one of the major concern for the scientist these days. These renewable energy gives DC output as most of our appliances require AC power. So we need inverters to convert them into AC power. Usually we use two level inverter to convert DC into AC, but the efficiency of two level inverter is very much low and with high harmonic distortion and also has a high dv/dt. To increase the efficiency we use multilevel inverter and also to lower the harmonic distortion. In multilevel inverters we don’t deal with the two level voltage instead in order to create a smoother stepped output waveform, more than two voltage levels are combined together and the output waveform obtained in this case has lower dv/dt and also lower harmonic distortions, although in multilevel inverters the complexity and cost of the inverters is increased. In this project we will design a seven level, 3-phase multilevel inverter with less complexity and at a lower cost.

Project Implementation Method

First of all we will implement the circuit on Matlab. Then the project wil be implemented by using IGBT switches which will be on and off by using a Aurdino microcontroller. The circuit further consist of transformer and orthocoupler. The whole circuit will be designed on PCB board.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The circuit will give output in 7 levels by using certain pattern of switches. There will be multiple DC sources. The Dc source may be solar pannel and can work on load for 1kw.
