Project Summary

The 21st Century is said to be the century of inventions, globalization, and development because no one can end up the day without using any embedded system product. Clinging to this fact, many developers came up with various applications including transportation applications. When it comes to transportation system, nowadays various online cab services have been launched in the  market providing smooth and comfortable rides to common people. While these applications provide various benefits to the common people belonging to all possible fields, they fail to provide facilities specifically to the students or office employees, who are mostly bound to same ride routines. Students and office employee’s despite of having the same destination and being unaware of the colleagues or fellow members coming from same areas are bound to book separate, expensive rides for them. The existing applications provide common ride facilities to a common users, but have no proper features for bringing service providers (van, coaster, or bus drivers etc.) and users(students, office employees) to a single platform.

Proposed Solution:

We propose a transportation hybrid application that will :

  • Will bring the service providers(van drivers etc.)  and users(students, office employees)  at one platform.
  • Provide easy comfortable solo ride booking to users
  • Luggage transportation using high occupancy vehicles like shehzore etc.

The application will be designed in a way that every novice user can easily understand and use the application irrespective of education or area/city limitations. The registered users can request new rides or can view the driver’s broadcast (including the current location, destination, and route to be followed by the driver) and can request to join the driver with his ongoing ride. The riders can create a group and can invite members of their choice to join the group. This facility will allow the riders to connect with different people and share their current location and ride details with the members of the group.

The drivers can broadcast their availability by sharing his/her trip details including their current location, destination & route to be followed. Besides, the driver can inform the rider, in case of emergency via uploading the status. The driver can use voice communication features while driving to avoid the risks of accidents.

The clients can also request a High occupancy vehicle of their choice for transporting luggage to the desired destination.

Project Objectives

The overall objectives of the project are:

  • To provide shared use of real-time and formal ridesharing to the users bringing the service providers and the clients to one platform.
  • To enable the clients, especially students and office employees to reserve a seat in the desired vehicle and carpool from anywhere any time.
  • To enable the service providers/drivers to reach the riders by broadcasting their availability, instead of waiting for the rider to request a ride. 
  • Drivers can broadcast their trip details including current location, destination & route to be followed.
  • Design a software application that will save the crucial time of riders by providing instant and cheaper request responses from nearby drivers and reducing the rider wait time.
  • To promote the efficiency of the service by filling as many available seats in a car as possible, to get exponential increase in number of rides even though at lower price points to increase overall revenue and stickiness while ensuring an enjoyable and delightful experience for both riders and drivers.
  • To provide a vocal assistant to the driver regarding the route, rider’s current location, etc. Drivers can use this voice communication feature while driving to avoid the risks of accidents.
  • To provide Freight forwarding services while managing the transportation of luggage with the complete details of the client, rider, luggage, route etc.
  • Enable the drivers to notify the riders with the current state of the ride by uploading status and requesting for a ride shift to nearby drivers in case of emergency.
  • To allow more than one ride at a time to the riders.
  • Allow the riders to offer their own fare.
  • Provide online chat translation upto 100 languages.
  • To provide Live Chat box to the users.
  • To provide a bar code scanner to the rider for dual verififcation of the vehicle and associated driver.

Project Implementation Method

The project will have Three main applications- a passenger app, driver app, and marketplace. 

  • Passenger app: The app has all features necessary for hailing a van, including GPS tracking, online payments, etc. 
  • Driver app: This component shows new ride requests from passengers nearby. Makes, allows, accepts or declines ride requests, and has a built-in map. 
  • Marketplace: Will carry out the most complex tasks. This component handles online requests from both apps, matches passengers with drivers, and processes other transactions.

The application will be developed on agile model for development and  rapid delivery of working software product.

IBM db2 - AI database will be used for data handling.

Benefits of the Project

The project covers many applications in social, financial, and commercial sectors. The aim of the project is to build an application that has various unique features that are purely new to the industry. A few major benefits of the project are listed below:

  • Providing several types of rides at one single platform including ride-hailing, casual carpooling, real-time carpooling, en-route rides, and requisite rides.
  • Our application also allows freight transportation where users can request for HOV for shifting heavy luggage like house furniture, electronics etc.
  • Allowing rider to enjoy affordable rides by achieving perfect carpool trips significantly lowering the trip cost of each ride and rider’s price.
  • The main focus of our application will be on users like students and office employees who need to take rides on regular basis at cheaper rates. For example, different students coming from same pick up area and going to the same destination unaware of fact this fact, request solo rides that not only prove to be expensive but also being alone brings a feeling of insecurity to the students.
  • When there are more cars on the road, every vehicle must travel slower and trips can take much longer thus our application will help in reducing traffic congestion.
  • Providing beneficial job opportunities to people by allowing them to earn money, work anytime without shift limitations, utilize private vehicles, make new companions.
  • Allowing the users to take necessary precautions and steps in case of emergencies(accidents , car break down etc.). For example, a driver in case of car break down can not only request for a transference of ride to another driver but can also upload status regarding the respective situation that will be visible to respective riders.
  • The application will allow the riders to create a personal chat group where they can share their ride status with the group members and can also request payment clearance from the group members, in case of emergency.
  • The project will allow the registered users to shuffle between two different modes(driver and rider) at the desired time. It will allow the users to provide and avail ride facilities with the people they are familiar. For example, consider a scenario where a faculty member is travelling to the university. She goes online in the driver mode and finds out that in her route there’s a student from the same university waiting for a ride to the university. The faculty member can accept the respective request and the student can have a safer ride with the faculty member whom he/she is familiar with.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The project focuses on delivering a hybrid application  based on new technologies. The technical details of the project are:

  • The project will be built on the most recent and efficient language i.e. Flutter. Flutter will allow us to make a hybrid application for all type of devices including android, IOs and web applications.
  • The technology that the application will focus on will be Artificial Intelligence.
  • The final project will have an integrated google API or MapKit for geofencing based guidance allowing the user to locate other users of the application within a specific virtual boundary. This feature will use technologies like GPS and Wi-Fi to locate the nearby drivers or riders.
  • A Live chat box will be integrated within the application for allowing the users to take advantage of communication facilities.
  • Streaming services:  Many of the project’s functionalities operate in real-time. From location tracking and matching to online payments and maps - all this functionality requires significant computing power and is expected to operate without downtime. Moreover, all these actions happen numerous times in a second in different parts of the globe. For that purpose, on-premise hosting servers fail to provide streamlined operations. That is why our application will host its infrastructure on cloud hosting with a dedicated network, located in a particular geographic area so that online services can work without delays.
  • The project will have a facebook and google SDK integrated in it to provide the user with better and easy login facilities.
  • API’s for suitable payment options will be integrated within the system to allow users to enjoy a range of payment methods.
