Neuroprotective effects of Lepidium sativum seed extract against diabetes associated dementia in rats
Since the diabetes mellitus is a severe metabolic disorder that leads to many other complications like nephropathy, retinopathy, hearing impairment, and neuropathy/dementia due to the generation of highly reactive oxidative species. Recent studies have confined that the garden cress seeds are enriched with antioxidants compounds such as flavonoids and have been proven effective in controlling the symptoms of diabetes and its other associated disorders on the animal modaule. However, there is no study has been conducted to investigate its effect against diabetes associated neuropathy (dementia) on the animal modal. This study will investigate the potential effect of seeds against dementia on Streptozotocin-induced dementia in albino rats. Therefore, the purpose of this experimental pilot study is to investigate the potential antioxidant activity and nutritious profiling of seed extract prepared through three different methods (E1, E2 and E3). Moreover, to investigate the neuro-protective effects of Lepidium stavium seeds extract in three different concentrations (C1, C2, C3) against diabetes associated dementia in albino rats. The antioxidant activity will be measured by the estimation of different qualitative assessment of phyto-chemical content. Whereas the neuroprotective effects will be measured by the neurobehavioral assessment in rats and estimation of compounds that cause oxidative stress in the brain. The results will be compared with the control group and non-treated dementia group. The data will be analyzed with the help of statistical tools.

At first the phytochemical analysis of the seed extract will be carried out to know the level of different compounds and nutritional value of the extract. Then animals model will be developed for the experimentation purpose by the induction of Streptozotocin drug. After treating with drug neurobehavioral analysis will be carried out to confirm the development of animal model. Once the model is developed for the experimentation then seed extract of different concentration will be prepared weekly for the induction of treatment. After completion of treatment period, neurobehavioral analysis will be carried out again to assess the effects of seed extract on oxidative stress. Decapitation will be done for the collection of brain samples. Samples will be collected for the oxidative analysis. Once all the analysis will be completed, statistical analysis will be done by using statistical softwares.
Revival of natural and economic treatment with the use of plants and herbs. Our product not only treats dementia but it also suppress the oxidative damage to other organs with least toxic effects.
The final deliverable product will be a seed extract of a specific concentration which can be used as a herbal medicine with least toxic effects and high nutritional value for the treatment of oxidative disturbances.
