Project Title

Multi-Band Frequency Reconfigurable Micro-strip Antenna

Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject Summary

Designing of a multiband frequency reconfigurable antenna by using a diode in which frequency band around 2.6GHz ,3.4GHz and 4.8GHz are used.

The frequecies are switched by using a diode and desired frequencies are used as per requirement on a single and compact sized antenna

Project Objectives

With the rapid development of the modern wireless communications, such as GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi etc. which operate on different frequency bands so different kind of antennas operating on different frequencies are required to utilize these applications..There is some times requirement of switchting from public to private networks. This will enhance the cost and size of the antennas. So there is a requirement of a system which can incorporate all these communication standards into single antenna of small size and affordable price.

The ultimate goal of our FYP is to design a compact reconfigurable antenna that can excite multiple-band operation combining different communication standards simultaneously into a single device

Project Implementation Method

Antenna is designed on the software HFSS and results are measured in it.Fabrication of antenna is under proess the results will be done once the fabrication is done.

Antna can be implemented in following fields

  1. TV broadcasts,
  2. microwave ovens,
  3. mobile phones,
  4. wifi routers
  5. wireless LAN,
  6. Bluetooth,
  7. GPS
  8. Two-Way Radios,
  9. Radars,
  10. Commercial Wireless LAN (3000-30000 MHz)
  11. Fixed Satellite Service
  12. Radiolocation Service
Benefits of the Project

Antna can be used for

  1. TV broadcasts,
  2. microwave ovens,
  3. mobile phones,
  4. wifi routers
  5. wireless LAN,
  6. Bluetooth,
  7. GPS
  8. Two-Way Radios,
  9. Radars,
  10. Commercial Wireless LAN (3000-30000 MHz)

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The proposed antenna consists of 3 monopole radiators, 3 rectangular tuning strips, and a microstrip feed line. With these structures employed, the antenna can generate three different frequencies while maintaining low profile and simple structure. To verify the  results simulated, a sample of this  antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested. The simulated and measured return losses, radiation patterns are presented

antenna dimensions are 20mm x 28mm

material used for antenna is copper

metrial used for substrate is FR4-epoxy which is a lossy one to improve the losses a new substrate is needed to be imported which is expensive one.so to get better results RT/Duroid 5870 substrate is requied.

microstrip patch antenna is used and to reconfigure the three bands a pin diode and RF choke ADCH 80A are used
