Project Area of Specialization Mechanical EngineeringProject Summarywe will make a compact firefighting robot for helping firefighters at their task. We named this robot as FFR beta, which is a short form of Fire Fighting Robot beta variant. This robot will be controlled with the help of a remote-control application to evade any obstacles in the path, search, and extinguish the fire. Furthermore, this robot can increase the productivity, safety, efficiency, and quality of the task given. FFR beta is more compact and more flexible compared to Thermite and FireRob robots. Another advantage of FFR beta is in its ability to enter the location with a small entrance or narrow space. FFR beta will be a prototype Robot with the capability of extinguishing the fire.
To design a robot acting as frontman at a fire location which will extinguish the fire with the assistance of firefighter using a smartphone application.
We wanted to develop a robot that will be acting as a frontman. A firefighter will control the robot from a safe distance so he/she will not get injured or killed during firefighting. The firefighter will know what is in front of robot so, that he can move the robot while an ultrasonic sensor will also be an interface to give information if any object is in front missed by a firefighter with distance from that object. These inputs, as well as live streams in android application, will give enough information to perform the task safely and efficiently.
Project ObjectivesThe deliverables of the project are listed below:

- measure distance between him and the obstacle
The robot will be able to measure the distance between him and any obstacle/hurdle/object in front of him and send the data to the application.

- move by overcoming obstacles
The robot will move by overcoming obstacles as all-terrain chassis will be used which can move on irregular surfaces. The robot will be moved away from the object/obstacle when an object is detected using the command from the application.

- extinguish the fire from a distance
The robot will extinguish the fire from a safe and distant location. A high-pressure water pump will be used to throw water with high pressure on fire to extinguish it from a distance.

- act as frontman
The robot will be used as a frontman at a fire location keeping the firefighter at a safe location to effectively operate the robot and extinguish the fire.

- detect fire
The robot will be able to detect whether the fire is extinguished properly, or some fire is still lit in surrounding when there is a lot of smoke making it difficult to see by the naked eye.

- give feedback using the camera
The robot will give feedback to the application using a camera which will be streamed on the application. The camera will also record the operation and save it on the storage available on the on-board computer for the purpose of record.

- be controlled using an application (smartphone)
A smartphone application will be developed in order to control the robot’s action and perform the desired operation

The firefighting robots can save a lot of lives someday, The lives of those affected by the fire disaster as well as lives of those people working as the firefighters, It can be useful in certain types of incidents where the environment will be very dangerous for the humans such as the hazardous materials, the radioactivity or the propane tank which can explode.
The robots assisting firefighters are not an often seen sight, There are robotic devices which can already be used for such purposes, These include the bots that can be thrown into the fire site to inspect the situation, as well as the large remote-controlled fire extinguishers.
