Project Title

Migraine Pal

Project Area of Specialization Artificial IntelligenceProject Summary

Pain in mostly one side of the head that causes vomiting, nausea and extreme sensitivity to light and sound is migraine. It usually lasts from four to seventy-two hours if untreated. Frequent migraine is not only one of the most prevalent and disabling disorders of adolescence, but also a risk factor for mental health (e.g., mood and anxiety disorders) problem. Migraine is called a neurological disorder and it can also be a psychological disorder. When it is identified as a neurological disorder, then doctors treat it with medication or surgery while it can be treated behaviorally if that’s considered a psychological disorder.  Some of the identified migraine triggers are insufficient sleep, some foods items, tiredness, depression, anxiety, stress, irregular meals and some environmental factors like sound, light cause migraine. When things associated with these triggers are tracked, it gets easier to know the exact trigger that causes migraine.

The existing applications for identifying migraine trigger primarily depends on the user for providing data manually. We are going to use a pervasive and mobile computing paradigm to collect data to monitor sleep cycle, heartbeat, physical activities (like walking, exercise, etc.), phone usage, weather. For each individual suffering from migraine, the triggers could be different thus our aim is identifying the triggers and provide recommendations to avoid migraine thus improving the quality of life.

We will use machine learning to identify the triggers and give the recommendation to the user through machine learning

Project Objectives

Some applications were developed to find the triggers of migraine which usually rely on user. This idea motivated us to develop an app using mobile computing paradigm that automatically collects user’s data and somehow can work manually to find the triggers of migraine. And can be the assistant that gives recommendation that can bring a change in user’s life.

Project Implementation Method

We are using incremental model because after each increment we check the project and integrate them.

Benefits of the Project

Our project will reduce the migraine triggers and it will identify the reason for the trigger and gives suggestion. Our main aim is to replace medication with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Because using a lot of tables can affect our stomach.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We are developing an android application with using android studio, and collecting the data set from migraineurs. After collecting the data from different users then we will use machine learning algorithm and predict the migraine and give suggestions to the user. We collect different inputs from users automatically using context-aware technology. It means there are different sensors in mobile phones, we will use them to get the user information like sleeping status, walking steps etc.
