Micro Hydro Turbo Generator for Remote Areas
Project Area of Specialization RoboticsProject SummaryGilgit Baltistan region of Pakistan is spread over an area of 72,400sq km. The rivers and streams flows through almost every part of region. Fresh water is considered most important in the survival of humanity and other living organism. Gilgit Baltistan has been rich potential of fresh water, three of the world largest glaciers are found in Gilgit Baltistan i.e. Biafo Glacier, Baltoro Glacier and Batura Glacier. Beside these glaciers 5,215 smaller glaciers and 2,420 glacial lakes are also located in Gilgit Baltistan.Electrical power place a vital role in over daily life and it is almost impossible to live without it. There are many methods to generating electrical power, one of which by deploying turbines on streams i.e. Hydro power plant (HPP). HPP convert potential energy of water into electricity. The water after generating electrical power is available for irrigation and other purposes. Hydroelectric powers plants (HPP) generate from few kW to thousand of MW so hydropower provided one on the best ways for rapidly expanding the country’s output.Once the electricity is produced, it must be delivered to where it is need. All the electricity made at power plants comes first through transformers which raise the voltage so it can travel long distances through power line.In proposed design of Hydro Turbo Generator (HTG), generator is not submerged into the water as of presently installed plants to resolve maintenance issues. The aim of the proposed project is design HTG for above mentioned areas where there are no resources available for site maintenance. The proposed HPP is generate electricity using water as fuel and will regulate the power. The performance of hydropower plants depends on many related parameters like hydraulic head, rate of flow, efficiency and selection of equipments.
Project ObjectivesStudy,design and develop
- Turbine(Mechanics).
- Electrical(Generation and Distribution).
Climate is the primary features that contribute to the hydrology of a region and is largely dependent on the geographical position on the earth’s surface. Climatic factors of importance are rainfall, its duration, intensity and aerial distribution. Other parameters are temperature, humidity, sunlight hours and wind run. All of these affect hydrological cycle. The climate of the project area can classified into two major seasons, wet (April-Oct) and dry Season (Nov-March).
Benefits of the ProjectHydro Power have many benefits as compare to other renewable for elecric generation. Some are as under.
- Hydropower is a fueled by water, so it's a clean fuel source
- .Hydropower doesn't pollute the air like power plants that burn fossil fuels, such ascoal or natural gas.
- Hydropower relies on the water cycle, which is driven by the sun, thus it's a renewable power source.
