Maternal Physical Activity Recognition System using Wearable Sensors
Project Area of Specialization Wearables and ImplantableProject SummaryWe propose a physical activity recognition and monitoring system based on wearable sensors during maternity. A physical activity can either create or prevent health issues during a given stage of pregnancy depending on its intensity. Thus, it becomes very important to provide continuous feedback by recognizing a physical activity and its intensity. However, such continuous monitoring is very challenging during the whole period of maternity.
The implementation of the project consists of following: (1) Collection of data through Sensors. (2) Raspberry-PI based platform for data acquisitioning. (3) Data link for transmission of data from Sensors to Raspberry-PI.(4) Feature extraction.(5) Recognizing activity.(6) GSM Module.
Project Objectives- Raspberry-PI and GSM based real-time activities and health monitoring of gravida to avoid unfavorable situation in case of emergency.
- Time non-consuming and close supervision of gravida.
- To overcome adverse pregnancy complications and birth outcomes.
- Home Supervision.

Benefits of the Project- Physical Activity Recognition (PAR) are applied on several applications like security and surveillance processes or the processes of monitoring a patients’ health condition.
- PAR systems within these fields are able to support or even replace human operators in order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the observation and analysis process.
- This Project can be further utilized for:
- Saving lives.
- Technology development for PAR system and on-board platform for data acquisitioning.
- Technology development for establishing gateway/Hardware datalink between on-board raspberry-PI and sensors during PAR system.
- GSM and Raspberry PI based system for data acquisition and recognition.
- Theoretical analysis and technical reports of implemented systems.
- Finalized achieved results in forms of tables, graphs and charts.
