Project Summary

The increase demand of electricity has now one of the major problems that we are facing currently. The Traditional grid system that we are using is now unable to meet the demands and requirements of industries and consumers that ultimately causing the power system to become unreliable and inefficient. The Smart grid is a new face of power industry that optimizes and improve the usage of electricity and increases the efficiency and reliability of a grid system.Which is controlled and monitored by IOT and hosted on very secure ledger block-chain to build more trust and optimal performance. The project will demonstrate the effective and efficient way of monitoring and controlling the flow of electricity from generation to distribution and to consumer.
Smart grid is an electrical network that enables a two way flow of electricity and data along with digital communication which allows it to pro actively changes it’s usage of electricity and makes the power system efficient. According to the US Department of Energy: “Smart grid will improve reliability, detection of fault would be much easy, consumer would be able to see the information regarding energy usage, environmental friendly as it uses renewable energy resources like Wind turbines and Solar panels, also a reduction in peak demand”. As we are now moving to electric vehicles and industries are expanding exponentially that would increase the demand of electricity, Smart grid can be use to overcome this problem. Smart grid system includes smart metering, renewable resources, smart appliances and Internet of things (IOT).

Project Objectives

Our main aim of the project is to improve efficiency of the system, with sustainable data integrity and optimal networking between master grid and micro grids, this will then enable to do optimize 2-way communication that is basically idea behind smart grids, how we are different from others solution, we are optimizing the generation section by decreasing the heating factor inside the power converters, monitoring and controlling it over the IOT with the concepts of power management system and demand management system so Grid station , consumer and generation unit should know about the demand and use values, to help Grid stations perform better and supply more clean, the two way communication between will help micro grids help collaborate with grid over a mesh network using IOT, As whenever one microgrid gets overloading it will send signal to near micro grid with under-load or safe load transmission or main grid to shift some of its load to other micro grids, this will help us in dealing with blackouts. The whole system on IOT will help perform better by means of wireless communication as it is faster than wire means and some cost effective too. After setting up the control and monitoring system, the most observed challenge with IOT based system is security, as in today's world cyber-attacks are getting so common than the past, which decreased the privacy for this purpose first we are hosting all the data to cloud, which are protected by several security layers and patches and making the data more vast secure by implementing the block-chain over that cloud which will work as a hyper database, the power of block-chain so strong as it is impossibly breakable and also creates trust between consumer and provider as transactions are more faster than the past and secure , with all changes record.

  • Present An Prototype That Will Show The Working Of Smart Grid.

  • Load Balancing & Demand Management System Success Rate Up-to 80%.

  • Customizable IOT Dashboard/SCADA.

  • Converter Design To Modify PWM Controller

  • Monitoring Of Whole System In Real-Time to improve handling efficiency Over IOT.

  • Securing The IOT By Cloud Servers.

  • Integration of IOT With Block-chain.

Project Implementation Method

The Project is comprises of 3 portions, generation, transmission, consumer.

Generation:

  • Renewable power generation through wind turbine and solar panels, decarbonization.
  • Mppt Controller For efficient power tracking and supply.
  • inline protection and reverse voltage protection.
  • Iot monitoring of whole power generation and supply.

Transmission:

  • Power System Transmission Line Design With Relay Logic Load Shifting Design.
  • Integrating IOT for monitoring and shifting Status.
  • Protection Devices Installation.
  • Design of transmission section, integration of IOT, setting up of SCADA as Master Station, simulation of load balance on ETAP, Test security level according to criteria of NIST Framework (Standard Cybersecurity Architecture).

Consumer:

  • Design of residential power consumption monitoring system, simulation test of monitoring system on proteus, setting up safety standards on entire project.
  • power used billing.
  • c.t and p.t testing on distribution transformers

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final fyp is of smart grid prototype model, in which generated electricity is given to micro grids which then distributes enegery efficiently to consumer in sustainable way, all commands and monitoring is recorded over iot for more efficency and whole system is more much automized to have every section working in robust mode, and hwole iot system is hosted on cloud for better security, all data recorded on cloud are used my data analyzation to decide future steps for smart grids to work in more better way
