Project Summary

Kidneys are one of the most important organs of the body. Kidney disease is a "hidden epidemic",850 million people worldwide are suffering from kidney diseases. According to the National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, about 30 million people, or 15% of adults, in the U.S. are estimated to have chronic kidney disease and have higher chances to move toward ESRD. Internationally the estimates are that 2 million people worldwide suffer from ESRD, and the number of patients diagnosed with the disease continues to increase at a rate of 5-7% per year. Chronic kidney disease can often be treated before it progresses to end-stage renal failure. Continuous increase in the number of patients with end-stage renal disease demands early detection of it. The most common form of kidney disease is chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease is a long-term condition that doesn’t improve over time. Kidney function will eventually deteriorate to the point where the kidneys can no longer perform their job properly. In this case, a person would need to go on dialysis and in severe cases can go to kidney failure. The earlier kidney disease is detected, the better the chance of slowing or stopping its progression.

We will investigate individuals with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to detect ESRD in them firstly and also predict the risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in early-stage CKD patients.Our main objective is to predict ESRD in the patient at right time, so they can take precautions in time to save a life. Also, we will recommend a knowledge-based healthy diet for the patient to make them stable in their disease and will try to recommend a nephrologist or medical emergency in case of alarming results. We will predict the mortality rate of patients to doctors to help them. Using our app patients can look after their renal system and save themselves from a huge fee of doctors and go to the doctor only in a severe emergency

Project Objectives

We will develop a system for chronic kidney disease patients that will help them in the detection of ESRD and helps early stage patients in the early prediction of ESRD. Our main objective is to predict ESRD in the patient at right time, so they can take precautions in time to save a life. In addition, we will recommend a knowledge-based healthy diet for the patient to make them stable in their disease and will try to recommend a nephrologist or medical emergency in case of alarming results. We will predict the mortality rate of patients due to this kidney disease based on the parameters in given dataset. Using our app patients can look after their renal system and save themselves from a huge fee of doctors and go to the doctor in a severe emergency. Software does not exist in the past that predict the health status of kidney. Our project aims to develop a software that helps the poor patients to take care of their kidneys in a very few cost.
Millions of people in Pakistan are unable to afford medical care. According to official data, there are 127,859 doctors and 12,804 health facilities in the country to cater for over 160 million people. Fewer and fewer people consult doctors. Fees have gone up, but the cost of medicines is also high, and even when they see a doctor they often cannot follow up on care and diet as medicines are beyond their budget. More and more people are being denied health care simply because they cannot afford it. Therefore, we tried to help in minimizing this gap for poor patients. We help them in consulting with doctor free of cost and in checking their kidney status by themselves. In future, we also have plans regarding free medication and diet food.

Project Implementation Method

We are making an android application which is performing all these tasks for the user and have very simple interface to understand for layman audience. Our app is made in native android and database we are using is firebase. On backend, we are actually training the machine on a dataset which have data of morethan fifty thousand patients. we are using Decision tree, KNN, Random forest algorithms. we will integrate these machine learning algorithm with our app. Till now, we have accuracy of our algorithms more than ninty percent.
