Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject SummaryInternet of things (IoT) is composed of digital devices that have unique identities that are connected and monitored over the internet, remotely. IoT enables a luxurious lifestyle in the form of a smart housing concept. However, smart housing encounters different issues like full automation and security/safety. Simultaneous automation system designing for different household appliances like electric appliances protection (from different voltages), fire control, remote control of electric appliances (fan, light, etc.), is a difficult task. In this project, we will build such a system that will be based on a centralized microcontroller (Arduino). This system will provide an efficient, cost-effective, and reproducible solution to different housing challenges.
Project ObjectivesThe main objective of our project is to reduce the unnecessary use of electricity and the safety of our home (office) by controlling the device through the internet and automatically. This objective will be achieved by accomplishing the following tasks:
- Supply Voltage protection (200V-250V)
- Remote control of electric appliances
- Automatic tank overflow control
- Fire control
- Temperature measurement
- LED Display
- Webpage development
This project consists of the following parts.
- Electrical Hardware and Schematic design
In this project our first step after reading literature we make schematics electrical design of our project on software (Proteus, kiCAD). And will make PCB design of circuits. And after interfacing different modules with the controller we place our design on the Vero board and make a proper hardware design.
- Control design for appliances
We will be using Arduino and Node microcontroller to controlling all of the systems that take input from sensors and working based on our algorithm. These sensors, circuits, and relays will interface with the microcontroller. And node MCU is an IoT platform that will be working as controlling the devices wirelessly through the internet.
- IoT Webpage
IoT webpage will be used for monitoring and controlling the devices wirelessly will be accessible on any browsers.
Benefits of the ProjectThe smart home has a huge scope in the future. Everyone will go for this technology happily because of the energy-saving behavior and more security accessibility features of smart homes as well as industry evolution.

The final product will be a prototype in which a device with sensors, relays, and circuits (smoke detector, water level and etc.) will be controlled wirelessly using a web interface that can be accessed on any browser. The relays will be working as a switch and sensors used to detect the objects (change in environment) and microcontroller for automatically controlling this system.
