IoT Based Walking Stick with Heart Monitoring and Fall Detection
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryWhen considering any society, the elderly are by far the most vulnerable to dangerous falls and heart risks. Hence they require constant care and assistance. We live in a busy world where it is not possible to monitor such citizens at all times. Although hiring a private nurse could be a feasible solution, but it is unaffordable for most. We present a solution to this problem in the form of a smart walking stick.
The walking stick will monitor heart rate, which can predict a danger of certain heart conditions, detect any occuring falls and notify the concerned personnel immediately. This will be an Arduino based project that will use various sensors to obtain the required data and communicate it over IoT, which will send notifications over the internet.
The finished product will be cheap, easy to use and uncomplicated.
Project ObjectivesIn this project we aim to develop a walking stick that
1. Can monitor the heart rate of the user to identify any potential risks
2. Can detect any occurring trips or falls and inform the concerned personnel.
3. Will have an IoT based notification system.
Project Implementation MethodThe project is to be implemented in the following steps:
- Arduino coding for sensor interfacing.
- Obtaining data through the interfaced sensors.
- Processing the data in Arduino.
- Transmitting the data over IoT if an anomaly is detected.
- Sending notifications over the internet.
The project will benefit:
- The elderly
- The disabled
- Hospitals
- Caretakers
Moreover, it will be easily affordable and simple to understand.
Technical Details of Final DeliverableThe final deliverables will be:
- A heart monitoring system
- A fall detection system
- A notification system based on IoT
