IoT based Smart Management of Poultry Farm
Project Area of Specialization Electrical/Electronic EngineeringProject SummaryAt the present time, automation plays a vital role in daily life. IoT-based poultry farming is beneficial in conditions wherein far-off monitoring and controlling system are needed and this, in turn, modifies the traditional farm into a modern farm with various automated functions.
This project focuses on the automation of poultry farms by using wireless sensors and digital image processing techniques. To make a manual poultry farm into an IoT-based smart poultry farm. With the help of the internet of things (IoT), we can easily monitor and control different parameters of the environment such as temperature, humidity, emission of unwanted gases, and water level. By using digital image processing techniques and machine learning algorithms we can also measure the weight of the broiler in the poultry farm. The system also checks how these parameters affect the health of the broiler and its growth.
This project will not only monitor those parameters, but also regulates them effectively with the assistance of diverse computerized techniques. The proposed work is useful for poultry farm workers who comply with traditional farming methods. This project will allow them to manage the poultry farm remotely using their cellular phones instead of physical monitoring.
Project ObjectivesThis project aims to reduce the mortality rate of the broiler to improve the productivity rate and health of the broiler by automating the process of maintaining and monitoring the temperature, humidity, emission of harmful gases, and food feeder effectively using the Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor.
The objectives of our project are:
- To design and implement an IoT-based prototype for monitoring and maintaining a healthy environment for poultry birds (chickens) on the farm.
- To check and monitor the temperature, humidity, and ammonia gas which affects the growth of the poultry farm.
- To reduce the unwanted gases from poultry by soil mixture.
- To automate the poultry farm in the aspect of feeding and watering.
- To predict the estimated weight of the chickens by using digital image processing techniques and machine learning algorithms.
- The project internet of things (IoT) based smart poultry farm can be implemented using IoT based hardware and ssoftware. It is used to sense various parameters of environment such as Temperature, Humidity, Emission of Ammonia gas, and Water level.
- Recorded data is uploaded to NodeMCU clouds. Mobile application or PC software is used to check and control collected data. The value reaches a threshold and has a specific action ttriggered, which activates a relay module. Mounting is done in a smaller Poultry Farm Model Display the actual environmental parameters.
- Sensor will cover smaller geographic area. Temperature varies by applying heat near the LM35 sensor. When the sensor detects an increase in temperature, the algorithm manipulates the relay to turn it on the exhaust fan to lower the internal temperature of the Poultry Farm. Ammonia is used near the gas sensor MQ6 to confirm the effects of the gas. Recognize the percentage of ammonia sent to the air and data to the Microcontroller. The algorithm will compare the data and if the threshold is exceeded, the fan will be turned on and reduce the emission of Ammonia in poultry farms.
- A water level sensor is used to indicate if water is short in a tank and it also sends a notification to the poultry farm worker.
- To measure the humidity, the SY-HS-220 sensor is used to measure and report the moisture and air temperature of the surrounding environment.
- To predict the estimated weight of the broiler (chickens), digital image processing techniques use machine learning algorithms with the help of a raspberry pi microcontroller and pi camera to predict the weight and display the output on pc screen.
- Therefore, IoT-based project can be implemented for the health and growth of chickens and also helpful for monitoring the data on pc and easily giving an overview of different parameters that how can it affect the health and growth of chickens in poultry farms.
- From this project poultry industry gained lot of benefits, from which some benefits are listed below:
- The most important aspect of this project is time saving, when a person monitor his poultry farm throughout a day, to save his time we are going to implement a method through which we can measure temperature of whole poultry farm through temperature sensor, check humidity through humidity sensor and we can detect any type of gas if suddenly gas entered inside poultry farm, to save the chickens we can detect gas through gas sensor and alert the person who monitor the poultry farm through mobile application.
- The second most important aspect of our project is which is also very beneficial for poultry farm, we can estimate the weight of chickens through using image processing techniques, we can't measure exact weight of chicken through image, but we can observe the estimated weight through image processing techniques. This technique is used in poultry industry when we have lot of chicken in farm and we have to measure the weight of any one of them, which is very difficult to measure weight of each and every one separately, so to overcome this problem we are going to implement this project.
- The general benefit of this project is poultry industry is to reduce the number of labours, time saving. It provides fast and accurate information about different parameters to farmers, system required low cost, asset saving and productive management in poultry farm.
- In the technical details of the final deliverable, our aim is to eliminate all the uncertainties and to enhance the project with a desirable design. The first term is to execute the project in such a way that its design can gain the benefits to poultry industry.
- From the technical part of our project we can check the values of different parameters such as temperature, humidity, water level and gas inside poultry farm through sensors that can be monitored via mobile application also we can estimate the weight of boilers through different types of image processing and machine learning algorithms.
