IoT Based Smart Agriculture System

Project Area of Specialization Internet of ThingsProject Summary

IoT-based smart agriculture system that involves remote crop monitoring, automation, and manual control. This system makes use of wireless sensor networks that collects data from different sensors deployed at various nodes and send it through the Wi-Fi network to the cloud. This smart agriculture system is powered by a microcontroller, it consists of a temperature sensor, moisture sensor, and humidity sensor. When the IoT-based smart agriculture system starts it continuously acquires sensors data and sends the data to the cloud through the IoT Gateway. So, users can view the data through Mobile/Web applications from anywhere in the world. At cloud the data is also processed, If the data is above or below a certain threshold value set by the farmer according to the type of crop cultivated, the water source will be turned ON/OFF automatically, and it will also send a notification to the Smart Farming mobile application to inform the farmer about the motor status. In case of emergency, the user can set the system into manual mode through a mobile application, where he can manually control the actuators through a mobile application.

Project Objectives Project Implementation Method Benefits of the Project

Pakistan is an agricultural country and most farmers follow very traditional methods to cultivate their crops. Using IoT in agriculture can help traditional farmers achieve high productivity with less wastage of water and less human labor. The major problem faced by the agriculture sector is that farmers must be physically present on their farms to monitor soil, environmental parameters, and crops health, as these are important factors to obtain a better-quality yield. The second problem is the wastage of water, which also affects the health of crops, which in turn reduces productivity. The third problem is the inefficiency in the farming of off-season crops through manual intervention, which also results in productivity loss, energy loss and increased labor costs. We have proposed an IoT-based smart agriculture system that involves remote monitoring, automation, and manual control to address these issues.
