Project Summary

In the past decade, there was an increase use of liquified pertroleum gases (LPG) and natural Gas to meet the increasing demand for energy. Now a days LPG has been widely used in industries, home appliances, heating and motor fuels. Many of incidents  like Explosion occurs in our day to day life because of Gas Leakage, and if gas leakage  is not detected early it can cause a major destruction.

This project is made to detect gas leakage and prevent these major accidents. This project is  consist of  Gas detecting sensors, IoT module, buzzers,leds,lcd,regulator, Arduino which will help detecting gas leakage in surroundings and send data to an IoT module. This IOT project is consist of Wi-Fi module connected to Arduino, sensors which will monitor the gas level in the air. while monitoring if the gas value is exceeds the set or limited range it will show some signs like turning the led to red, buzzers or notifies and update it over IOT so that where it can be monitored and corrective actions can be taken.

Such IOT as well as Arduino based gas leakage detector systems can be installed in homes, hotels LPG gas storage areas. With this project, you can reduce the amount of time it takes for an assessment because you do not have to manually monitor.

Project Objectives

  •  To  Develop an model that detects gas leaks, and then alerts  the concern user about the leakage.
  • Detects gas Leakage like(LPG) using MQ5 Gas Sensor and Arduino.

  • Setup an IoT based alert/notification mechanism using IoT based Wifi-Module.

  • Sends alert/notification to specific system like website/mobile.

  • Sound Alarm – Produce sound alert on gas leak.

  • Indications through LEDs Red for Danger & Green for safety.

  • Display Status in an LCD (16x2 LCD Display).

Benefits of the Project

  • IOT and Arduino based LPG leakage detection system can be installed in Homes, Hotels, LPG Cylinder storage areas.
  • The main advantage of this project is that it can determine the leakage and send the data over to a website/mobile, where it can be monitored and corrective actions can be taken.
  • If appropriate measures are taken quickly after it is reported over the IOT, it can help in saving the loss of lives and property.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

We have used various components in the IOT and Arduino based LPG leakage detection system. LPG Gas Sensor is used to detect the gas leakage. Arduino is used to turning ON the buzzer, to send a message to LCD and to send data to the IOT module. LCD is used to display an informative message. A buzzer is used to signal the gas leakage. And ESP8266 is used to send data over a Wi-Fi network.
