Project Summary

This project aims for designing and executing the advanced development in embedded systems for Animal Farming. This smart advanced system is essential to operate and monitor animal farms from far a place mean remotely. That system can provide feed and water as needed and exhaust the excess of biogas which is produced by the animal waste that is harmful so that it needs to detect fire on the farm. Moreover, this advanced intelligent system is also able to do monitoring of the whole farm. This type of intelligent advanced system can be designed in a cost-effective way by using Arduino, water level sensor, ultrasonic sensor, gas sensor, temperature sensor, humidity sensor, thing Speak (Thing Speak provides instant visualizations of data posted by your devices to Thing Speak) via Internet or Intranet connectivity with the devices i.e. smartphones or PC system (laptop). Besides this GSM module is used to provide information to our smartphone device of the current situation in the farmhouse. In this project, we are going to develop a smart animal farm based on the internet of things (IoT) with given above-mentioned features.

Project Objectives

•To design a Smart farm allows the farmer to ease his workload, save time and increase his Productivity.

•It delivers animal care with less labor and with less human intervention.

•The advanced system which is powerful and reliable with remote monitoring

The complete advanced system which able to comprise the feed filling system and water filling system, incubator system, biogas exhaust system, fire detecting system. The data from the system is transmitted and received by port address using a WIFI router to GSM System. The system can be controlled and monitored using the GSM of the system. Moreover, it has two modes of operation manual and as well as an automatic. The designed advanced system which we suppose that almost all the parameters are essential for an animal smart farm compared to readily available system basic on a few parameters. Hence, so in our complete system that becomes the advanced design. 

Project Implementation Method

This complete system and its operates as which are briefly described below:

  • When the biogas indication if shows that it is less than the threshold value it will not start the exhaust system and If it shows or becomes more than the threshold value then it automatically starts the exhaust system.
  • When the feed in the container if shows that it is less than the threshold value or may it identify a certain quantity then this advanced system will turn on the feed valve that to maintain up to the specified level.
  • If the temperature and also humidity of that incubator when it is less than the given threshold value then that system will turn on the heater. So otherwise, the fan is used to maintain the humidity.
  • When the fire sensor value if goes below the threshold value then that system is turned on an alarm.
  • If the feed in the container is less than a threshold value or a certain quantity then the system turns on the feed valve to maintain up to a specified level.
  • IP camera keeps providing a continuous video feed to the GUI panel
  • And finally, if the water level goes below the given threshold value, then the system turns on the water pump.

  • Water Conservation Weather predictions and soil moisture sensors allow for water use only when and where needed.
  • Real-Time Data and Production Insight Farmers can visualize production levels, soil moisture, sunlight intensity, and more in real-time and remotely to accelerate the decision-making process.
  • Lowered Operation Costs Automating processes in planting, treatment, and harvesting can reduce resource consumption, human error, and overall cost.
  • Increased Quality of Production Analyzing production quality and results in correlation to treatment can teach farmers to adjust processes to increase the quality of the product.
  • Accurate Farm and Field Evaluation Accurately tracking production rates by field over time allows for detailed predicting of future crop yield and value of a farm.
  • Improved Livestock Farming Sensors and machines can be used to detect reproduction and health events earlier in animals. Geofencing location tracking can also improve livestock monitoring and management.
  • Reduced Environmental Footprint All conservation efforts such as water usage and increased production per land unit directly affect the environmental footprint positively.
  • Remote Monitoring Local and commercial farmers can monitor multiple fields in multiple locations around the globe from an internet connection. Decisions can be made in real-time and from anywhere.
  • Equipment Monitoring Farming equipment can be monitored and maintained according to production rates, labor effectiveness, and failure prediction.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The designed system mainly consists of two modules; an embedded system module and an Ethernet communication module. The first module contains a Water level sensor, Biogas Sensor, temperature and humidity sensor, fire sensor, and one microcontroller (i.e. Arduino mega) which are placed in the animal farm to sense the system parameters. The data is transmitted by an Ethernet shield through WIFI using ESP8266. The embedded system module gets important information on the farm of an animal which is going to maintains the record and required performs the respective that function in real-time. The advanced animal farm which is consists of a subsystem and that is Bio Gas Control, the Feed Control System working, Incubator Control DHT11 system and the Fire Detecting System, and Water Control System

  • The monitoring and controlling when it going to start with the help of receiving and transmitting the data over that specific IP address and also port address by using the UDP which stands for User Datagram Protocol.
