Interactive LMS: User Centered Perspective.
In early 2019, a novel Coronavirus named COVID-19 emerged in China and it spread quite abruptly worldwide. Educational institutes around the globe were closed too in the same regard; likewise was the situation in Pakistan. Pakistan was lacking with the proper framework of e-learning at most of the educational institutes (public and private sector) and therefore faced major issues in implementing online mode of learning and teaching. As HEC directed to resume studies through online teaching to minimize the loss of academic curriculum, different ( LMS), alternative techniques, and other online methods were adopted by institutions to pursue the circle of learning and teaching.
Every institution has to perform academic activities through Learning Management System( LMS). A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, automation and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. There are many LMSs are being used but every LMS has its pros and Cons. It is very big challenge for User like students and teachers to adopt because of its complexities and less user-friendly. In short, Users are reluctant to LMS because of poor interactivity. There is a need for interactive LMS based on users' perspectives.
This project is serving as a model to handle any kind of pandemic emergency in the education domain. It is classified into three phases.
The first phase will determine critical user interface (UI ) and User Experience (UX) issues in existing LMS used at various higher education institutes of Lahore to adopt e-learning during COVID-19. These issues will be identified through the system usability scale and Heuristic guidelines given by Jackob Nelson.
Phase one will be followed by phase two where issues will be analyzed through Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to provide a framework that will help Web Designers, UX/UI developers to develop interactive LMS.
Finally, based on the outcome i.e. Framework of phase 2, web-based LMS will be developed that can be used for higher education institutes of Pakistan as standards of learning and teaching.
The project is to enhance the quality of teaching at higher education institutes by implementing the Unified Standard Framework of Online Teaching. Additionally, the framework will be equally beneficial with the traditional face-to-face mode of teaching too as it will guide the instructor in the design of the course from the Learner-Centered Approach. At last, it will guide higher education institutes to adopt cost-effective e-learning solution to use at their own pace to extend the courses and programs remotely without considering the physical location of the student. So, this will initiate a new vision in online learning and teaching in the education industry of Pakistan. Summary of Project can be seen in the following figure 1

Figure -1: Summary of project
The objectives of the project are mentioned below:
To identify Critical usability issues in Existing Learning Management systems during the COVID-19 Pandemic for implementing e-Learning at higher education institutions of Pakistan using Heuristic evaluation
2. To provide Multi-Criteria Hierarchical e-Leaning Framework based on identified issues using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)
3. To develop an interactive Learning Management System for Higher Education of Pakistan based on framework work provided
This project will use a mixed-method methodology and is divided into three phases. Every phase has some activities and tasks to accomplish. Below is the detail of the phases including activities:
Phase -1 ( Identification of usability issues through Heuristic evaluation in existing LMS )
1. To identify Critical usability issues in Existing Learning Management systems during the COVID-19 Pandemic for implementing e-Learning at higher education institutions of Pakistan using Heuristic evaluation
Phase -2 (Multi-Criteria Hierarchical e-Leaning Framework)
2. To provide Multi-Criteria Hierarchical e-Leaning Framework by evaluating the identified issues using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP)
Phase -3 (Development of interactive Learning Management System)
3. To develop an interactive Learning Management System for Higher Education of Pakistan based on framework work provided
Workflow can be seen in figure 2:

Figure 2 Workflow of the project
The project will be beneficial to all stakeheloders of higher Education of Pakistran who are even using traditional face to face mode of teaching or online too. It will guide higher education institutes to adopt cost effective e-learning solution to use at their own pace to extend the courses and programs remotely without considering the physical location of the student. So, this will initiate new vision in online learning and teaching in the education industry of Pakistan.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of the project will be:
Technically this FYP is related to Research and Development where research and development related details are here.
In phase -1 Survey will be conducted and a Heuristic evaluation will be performed that is Heuristic evaluation is a process where experts use rules of thumb to measure the usability of user interfaces in independent walkthroughs and report issues. Evaluators use established heuristics (e.g., Nielsen-Molich’s) as shown in the following figure -4 and reveal insights that can help design teams enhance product usability from early in development
Figure 4 - established usability heuristics
Phase 2 is related to Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, or MCDA, is a valuable tool that we can apply to many complex decisions. It is most applicable to solving problems that are characterized as a choice among alternatives., We will use The analytic hierarchy process is a structured technique for organizing and analyzing complex decisions, based on mathematics and psychology. The AHP steps as shown in figurer 5 will be followed

Figure 5- AHP steps
Phase 3 is related to the Development of interactive LMS based on issues identified and the framework proposed in Phase1 and Phase2. Different prototyping tools like Figma and website development tool like HTML/CSS will be used.
Figma is a design platform for teams who build products together. Born on the Web, Figma helps the entire product team create, test, and ship better designs.
While HTML (the Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are two of the core technologies for building Web pages. HTML provides the structure of the page, CSS the (visual and aural) layout, for a variety of devices.
