Project Summary

Introduction: In the modern world, supermarkets employ shopping trolleys/baskets, in order to aid  customer to carry the products which they intend to purchase. Customer then proceed shopping cart to checkout at the billing counter. Customer gets frustrated while waiting in the queue at billing counter and sometimes they get confused while comparing the total price of all the products with the budget in the pocket before billing. Every product is not labeled with specified price so, most of the middle class customer buys product by seeing the price tag and much time is consumed in eliminating products to match the budget.In today’s world around 75% of the people still suffer with this problem.

Scope: An Integrated Smart Shopping Cart is model to reduce long queue at the billing counter and facilitate customers by self checkout and possibly eliminate the total waiting time of customers, lower the total manpower requirement and expenses for markets and increase efficiency overall and provide better shopping experience.This cart aims to  save time of customer and cashier at billing counter and also increase profit by decreasing the human labor.

This cart provides on spot scanning of the product through barcode scanner which is attached to every cart and when customer adds any scanned product in the cart then it shows its price details on LCD. This allows customers to compare the total price with the budget in the pocket before billing. Customer need to specify total budget, when total budget reached that amount that LCD will show alert to the customer. If customer put any product that is not scanned, alert will be generated .And when customer has done with its shopping then press “End Shopping” then bill will be shown on LCD. Customer can pay on billing counter and also through online payment option.

Background: Initially it was introduced in RFID technology details as follow;

RFID and ZigBee communication were employed in 2017. RFID reader read product information and is stored in ArduinoMega 2560 and sent to the billing counter using ZigBee.

i. RFID readers can be 10x more expensive than barcode scanners.

ii. Sometimes not as accurate or reliable as barcode scanners.

iii. Implementation can be difficult & time consuming.

Project Objectives

An Integrated Smart Shopping Cart is model to reduce long queue at the billing counter and facilitate customers by self checkout. It provides the shopping history of the regular costumer, but he or she has to signed-up on that trolley then after that he/she can login their account and watch their shopping history.

We and our main motive behind this project is to save the time of the costumers and provid them better experience for thier shopping and it will save the monthly cost for the mart's owner because by this owner have to decrease their employ. By decreasing employes he can save money and make more profit. 

Other objectives are following:

1. To save time of customer and cashier at billing counter.

2. To increase profit by decreasing the human labor.

3. To provide better shopping experience.

Project Implementation Method

Our project cotains both the hardware and software work, For hardware and software details are given follow.

Software: Software cotains the POS (Point of Sale System) which contain the User Interface (UI) through whch final bill for the costumer will be generated, and it will be connected to the database through the firebase which will provide the bill and the details to the main counter. That database contains the details of all product in taht supermarts (i.e price, type etc). This POS software will also have the signed up form by which costumers can make thier acount for the supermart and save thier shopping history.

This Point Of Sale (POS) System will be developed by using Python and Use Firebase for the database.

Hardware: Hardware part contains the connection of the barcode scanner with the respberry pi and TFT Screen with the repbery pi.

Benefits of the Project

There are many benefits of this project which following:

1. It will save time of the costumers.

2. It will make shopping more easy for old peoples.

3. It will save the maney for the owner/ It the provive more profit to the owner.

4. By this costumer can check the details of the product like price on the spot.

5. Costumer can save thier shopping history for the next time (If the costumer is regular costumer and every month he/she have to make the long list for thier monthly shopping by this costumer can save thier history and then next time he/she just have to log in then can see thier shopping history).

6. It will provide batter shopping experience to the costumer.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

The final Deliverable product or out prototype will be looking as following picture.

We are not using Arduino here it is fitted in picture by mistake, here we will be using only Raspberry Pi here.
