Inhibitory effect of natural spices extract on Multidrug resistant Human Pathogens
Herbs and natural spices are used for decades in human history for their sustained popularity as flavorings and colorants. They are increasingly being used for their potential health-enhancing benefits as an antimicrobial agent also have anti-tumor and antioxidant properties. The emergence of Multi-Drug Resistance is a greater threat for the whole world due to the continuous misuse of antibiotics. For effective treatment, natural spices are a potent source because of their less cytotoxic effect and efficient antimicrobial activity against Multi-Drug Resistant human pathogens. The study will aim to investigate the antimicrobial properties of natural spices extracts against Multi-Drug Resistant pathogens. The antimicrobial activity of aqueous spices extracts will be evaluated using agar well diffusion method along with minimum inhibitory concentration by tube dilution method. Moreover, fractional inhibitory concentrations will be calculated in combination with different antibiotics to check the synergism. The result would provide quantitative and qualitative significances to support the efficacy of antimicrobial activity of natural herbal extracts against Multi-Drug Resistant pathogens. These herbal extracts may contain different compounds with effective therapeutic potential against various pathogenic organisms and they could be used for the treatment of different diseases caused by Multi-Drug Resistant human pathogens.
•To determine the antibacterial activity of natural spices extracts against Multidrug Resistant pathogens.
•To examine the mode of action of spices extracts.
•To elucidate the inhibition effect of spices extracts on the bacterial cells Scanning Electron Microscopy.
In the current project, the first step would be literature review related to the antibacterial activity of natural spices extracts. It includes the effect of spices extracts on multidrug resistant pathogens. After initial extraction of spices, Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Fractional Inhibitory Concentration (FIC) will be determine and then the effect of extracts on the cell membrane of multidrug resistant pathogens will also be analyzed through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
The emergence of multidrug-resistant microorganisms is one of the biggest threat and most challenging public health issues due to the regular misuse of antibiotics. Therefore, current study is designed to examine effective spices extracts as an alternative natural way to treat various infections caused by multi drug resistant pathogens. Due to the various side effects of synthetic antibiotics on human health it is a need to work on natural/herbal antimicrobial agents which is quite cheap and don’t cause any harmful effect on human health.
The final deliverable will be the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of any natural spice extract that is efficiently working as an antibacterial agent for combating multidrug resistant pathogens. These extracts can be used as an antibiotics to treat various infections without any harmful effects on human health.
