Project Title

Implementation of Object detection and Avoidance Algorithm on FPGA A step towards Autonomous Vehicles

Project Area of Specialization

Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Project Summary

Implementation of object Detection/ Avoidance Algorithm on FPGA(NI MyRIO) for step towards autonomous vehicles. we are using Smart Camera for real time image acquisition. First we have to find the best algorithm most favourable for object detection/avoidance (First Approach weather it is vehicle or not and human body). We will see real time images from our smart camera through our tool LabView (Vission Assistance Tool). Now we will implement our Algorithm on LabView then we will move toward LabView FPGA tool because we are using NI MyRIO. we will program our algorithm in labview FPGA. after implementing our hardware will able to detect objects in real time and generating signals to aviod them. This will be helpful in many aspects and this is a step for moving forward to autonomous vehicles.

Project Objectives

  • Implementation of object Detection/Avoidance Algorithm on LabView.
  • Real Time Implementation of object Detection/Avoidance algorithm on FPGA(NI MyRIO)

Project Implementation Method

  • Review and Analysis of suitable Algorithm (object detection/avoidance) which can be implemented on the available hardware (Smart Camera, Ni MyRIO).
  • Implementation of object Detection/Avoidance algorithm using LabView FPGA on NI MyRIO(RT Processor+FPGA).
  • Testing and validation of the algorithm

Benefits of the Project

Autonomous vehicles are fully machine control we are taking first step towards autonomous vehicles by detecting real time objects and avoiding unfavourable object by generating signals for this process we are using Advance Controls systems (RT Processors+FPGA) and implement our suitable algorithm on it. One such potential advantage is that they are able to increased safety on the roads, every year vehicle cause many deaths .So through this automatically vehicle could potentially decrease number of accidents and reduces traffic congestion .People who are not able to drive due to factors age, disability So could be able to use it without depending on others.
