Project Summary

We are using renewable forms of energy and the best renewable energy resources are Solar, Wind and Pumped Hydro. We are using these energy resources because of the shortage of electrical energy. We are making “Hybrid-Solar wind and pumped Hydro powered Home “which will fulfill our energy requirements. We have designed a Powered Home which will improve features from the previous ones which are already available in the market. Our Powered Home requires no parameter because we are using a microcontroller (Arduino Uno) which will automatically control and maintain the power requirements. Our main objective is to consume minimum energy from WAPDA and use maximum energy from renewable resources which will reduce a lot of expenses which we are paying in the form of billings.Our project is designed in four different stages. In first stage, we will produce energy from solar panels. The second one is from Pumped Hydro, the third one is from wind power and the last one is how to adjust, compare and control power by using microcontroller. Hybrid powered inverter have hybrid DC input and give only one AC output. Output of hybrid inverter depends upon the source input which vary from 12/24/48V DC .It will give output of 220V AC. By gathering the data about and doing our project, we got to know that how much technology we are using in this project.

Project Objectives

The purpose of this hybrid system is to avail alternative power system for the distant areas to Fulfil the energy in backwards areas small research units and medical units. This type of hybrid system can be used in the emergency situation where any type of natural disaster occurs. This
system is very low cost as compared to WAPDA system. It takes expense at once and we can get benefits for a long time of period.Pakistan is facing a lot of problems related to electricity demand and supply. There is a huge short fall which is not maintained yet.In order to resolve the current situation of our energy system, we designed a hybrid system in which we assemble the solar-wind and pumped hydro technologies together. These three technologies combine together and produce 500 watts of energy. This 500 watts is useful in many domestic loads and in many medical units, this type of hybrid system is useful in the small villages and distant areas where less voltages are reached. It is Applicable in high wind flow areas, in high sun light areas, in home and all buildings etc.

Project Implementation Method

First we done  Optimization .The main approaches for analysing and optimizing  is optimization through  HOMER.Homer is an Hybrid optimization Model for Electrical Renewable designed by NREL: After this wo select a site for experiment JIWANI. Jiwani is a town and commercial port that is located along the Gulf of Oman in the Gwader District of the Balochistan Province  in Pakistan.During day time, when sun is at its peak photovoltaic panel will get energy from sun and convert it into electrical energy and by using converter it charges the 12V DC battery.The PV is generating the fluctuating and variable voltages that are being controlled by converter that is controlling and providing constant voltage. Similarly, wind turbine also generates electric power when blades of turbine rotate and it is charge the battery. Pumped-hydro system generates electric energy by using water. This pump sucks water by consuming 12V DC and rotates the blades of water turbine by throwing water on these blades.The main equipment in the hybrid system is inverter that converts the DC Volts of battery into AC Voltages. It takes 12V DC from the battery and converts it into 220V AC. This inverter is also named as uninterruptible power system (UPS) which is used in many domestic appliances.Ardunio is the brain of the project hardware. It has a programmable integrated circuit which is to be programmed. It has 14 digital and analog  (input/output) pins In which 5V or 3.3V supply is used.It has many more pins and LED to show the supply is coming or not. we use Arduino for controlling purpose.

Benefits of the Project

The objective of this project is to design a portable power system that combines Four systems. A wind source,  solar panel source,Pumped Hydro  and a WAPDA main supply in one single unit. The main idea of combining these systems together is to achive a constant power production, which would be available most of the time. Our hybrid system is capable of producing uninterrupted power supply. The greatest feature of our design is the portability of the system. All the components can be easily disassembled into small pieces,  facilitating transportation, and reassembly is easy in any location with some wind/sun  and water source.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

DC form of electrical energy is converted into AC form of energy by using the inverter. The basic purpose of the inverter is to take DC energy from the 12V DC battery and then convert it into the AC form of energy. We use these types of inverters in our houses which take the DC energy from battery and then convert it into the AC form with  required frequency of 50Hz.This type of DC-AC inverters are very useful in our houses as well as in the industries uninterruptible power supply(UPS) and where AC motor drives. Inverters are very useful in the hybrid energy. These DC-AC inverters are used where energy collect from the natural resources (wind, Photovoltaic and water etc.) and then converted into AC form of energy. Voltage and current is can be controlled by using the DC-AC and DC-DC converters.
