The use of the internal combustion engine (ICE) in conventional vehicles is the one of the major contributors to CO 2 in our environment. The ICE based transportation sector uses 19% fossil fuel in the world. As it is well known fact that fossil fuels resources are finite and also, they are causing damage to our environment and health as they
contributes 23% of energy related CO 2 emissions in the world. Considering growth rate of world population, it is expected that CO 2 emission will increase in future. In
transportation sector pollution can be reduced by using electric vehicles (EVs). Also the use EVs will reduce fossil fuel demand and consumption in transport sector. However,
the major issue with EVs is the range anxiety as batteries once charged can be used for a limited distance. To increasing the driving range of an EV, either storage capacity of batteries has to be increased (this will increase the overall cost of an EV) or batteries have to be recharged again (this may result in time delay as it is a time consuming process). Range anxiety is considered to be one of the main hurdle for the commercialization of EVs due to the fact that EVs have limited range as compared with ICE based vehicles. Although the range of electric vehicles is extended day by, however, range anxiety is still there and becomes worse in absence of infrastructure for EVs in countries like Pakistan.
