The whole world is becoming more progressive by adopting and developing in the ?eld of engineering. Today the most discussed thing is the smartness of city infrastructure. To achieve this there is a need to be work in the ?eld of smart lighting, smart security, smart management and smart drainage system. As in our country we have lamppost which only give us light and most of the bulbs used are not led bulbs, it’s on/o? system is manual. So we proposed Humble Lamppost (A Humble step towards smart city) in which lamppost is put-in-service for multiple tasks relating to smart lighting, smart security and smart management.
In smart lighting the bulbs we will use are led bulbs. It’s on/o? system is automatic using ldr sensor. During night brightness will be controlled by motion sensor i.e when no motion is detected led will glow with 50 percent intensity and whenever motion is detected it will glow with 100 percent intensity.
For smart security we a?x camera module over a humble lamppost for recording purpose. Which will help us for security purpose.By using machine learning we will detect following emergency situations:
Fire Detection
Accident Detection
Pedestrian/Crowd Detection
After the detection of following situation the relevant department will be noti?ed. Also panic button will be installed for a patient who want to contact ambulance/rescue 1122
In smart management system we will be displaying daily weather update by using the application of Iot. An lcd panel will also be attached for digital advertisement purpose which will be done using pi signage or yodeck. Raspberry pi is a brain of our project. All module will be integrated on a single raspberry pi. All powered by solar energy.
Proposed idea of FYP “HUMBLE LAMPPOST” is to utilize many of the lamppost in our country that are merely a piece of metal only performing a single task which is to provide Illumination. So, a lot of money is spent on them, but we are not utilizing it to its full potential.
So, the objective of this project is to modernize these lampposts by equipping them with components like camera, a smart led panel, sensors, internet transmitter, LCD digital signage), SOS emergency feature all powered by solar panel.
Above mentioned idea will be accomplished by applying the application of Internet of Things (IOT) and Machine Learning.
Through humble lamppost we are going to achieve
- Smart lighting system
- Smart security system
- Digital advertisement
- Smart weather station
This will be regarded as a quick win in making our cities smart at a very low cost.
Project Implementation MethodAll these modules and systems will be combined by using a single Raspberry Pi all powered by solar energy. Complete integration of all these modules will result in which we call as “HUMBLE LAMPPOST (A HUMBLE STEP TOWARDS SMART CITIES)”.

- SMART WEATHER STATION
Our system will use Raspberry Pi as the brain of the project. For IoT integration we will use Firebase. Real-Time Database feature will be utilized for storing data from sensors. Data will be stored in terms of date and time. Which will help us if we want to identify the situation on a specific day and time. It also helps us while taking extracting data for some future use.
To visually illustrate the readings Node-Red will be used. It will receive data from Firebase on the runtime and display the values in a graphical way.

- SMART LIGHTING SYSTEM
Our System will include automatic turn on/off system depending upon the light conditions. Instead of traditional bulbs LEDs will be used. LEDs are more cost effective and are better at saving energy. During the nighttime LEDs will automatically be turned on and will glow to 50%. When motion detected it will glow to 100%. This solution will result in less power consumption of the humble lamppost.

- SMART SECURITY
For fire detection we will replace traditional sensors-based system. Camera will be utilized to detect fire and inform the relevant department utilizing IoT. For fire detection Computer vision (Open CV) will be utilized.
For pedestrian and crowd detection will also utilize computer vision. Accident detection will also be done using computer vision. With all that panic buttons will also be placed so that in case of any emergency satiation other than above mentioned.

- DIGITAL ADVERTISMENT
Our system will use IoT through which ads shall be uploaded on LCD screen. Advertisement will also be timed meaning different advertisement will be shown on different time and to add new advertisement it will be uploaded on cloud and from there it will be uploaded automatically on screen.

Benefits of the ProjectHumble lamppost has many uses in daily life. It can be installed in educational institutes, streets, and roadsides. Humble Lamppost provides a quick win in making our cities smart and without changing any existing infrastructure of the city.
In simple this project will act as quick win for making our cities smart.
