HOME AUTOMATION FOR ELDERLY & DISABLED

Elderly and disabled people faces many challenges and home automation can play an important role in making their lives easier. This can enhance independence .

Our FYP is IoT based home automation system that uses Arduino Uno, Bluetooth module HC 05,1N4007 diode, 2n2222 Bipolar Transistor, relays and 220V AC voltage source. Using these equipments home automation project can control home appliances like fans, lamps, motor etc. This methodology is implemented in such a manner that it works with artificial intelligence. In addition this system is controlled by using android app (by connecting android app to Bluetooth module of the project).

We are also adding an  eye blink detection technology in our project (to control home appliances).This will help people who have locked-in syndrome(a disease in which patients can not move their body but can only blink their eyes and their mental function are not affected), this technology uses IR glass and IR sensor,the purpose of this blink sensor is to sense an eye blink in real time. This system analyses eye blink and differentiate between an intentional blink and normal eye blink.

Our FYP is the best option for those who have trouble with mobility. Furthermore controlling lighting fom everywhere with the help of smartphone saves electricity and ensure energy efficiency.

 This system will also be able to bring good stability in daily life routine for disabled people people.

Project Objectives

Objective of our FYP are

1) To make arduino based home automation system which can be controlled by android app to help elderly & disabled people.

2)To help people who have locked-in syndrome by adding eye blink detection technology in our project( they'll be able to control home appliances through eye blink)

3)Our  Project focuses on making it possible for elderly and disabled people to stay at home safe and comfortable.

Project Implementation Method

The project implementation will  be based on the following flow;

  • Our Arduino based home automation system can be used in homes of elderly and disabled people, this can enhance independence and change the way eldely and disabled people experiance at home.
  • By using eye blink detection technology of our project people with locked-in syndrome desease can control home appliances through eye blink and thus can feel little independent and more comfortable.
  • Our project can serve as the best option for those who have trouble with mobility or  reaching switches of different electrical appliances.Hence they can control those appliances with the touch of few buttons through individual's smartphones.

Benefits of the Project

  •  our fyp (arduino based home automation system) can control home appliances with the help of android app.
  • So elderly & disabled people (specially those who have problem with mobility) can control home appliances with the few clicks or voice commands on their smart phone.
  • Eye blink Detection technology of our project can help patients of locked-in syndrome to control home appliances with eye blink.
  • Our project will bring more  stability in daily life routine of elderly and disabled people.

Technical Details of Final Deliverable

Elderly and disabled people faces many challenges but the life of patients of locked-in syndrome is more challenging because they can not move their body but  can only blink their eyes and their mental function are not affected.

Our project can be the best option for both of them because using this type of home automation system elderly and disable people can control home appliances using their smartphones and patients of locked-in syndrome can control home appliances by eye blink.

In this project initially arduino uno will be programmed according to the project then we will connect bluetooth module HC05,1N4007 diode,2N2222 Bipolar transistor, relays, 20V AC Voltage source and electrical appliance i.e fans, lamps, motor and IR glass and IR sensor to arduno uno. Then we will connect this whole system with android app through bluetooth. In this way our project will be able to control home appliances through android app and eye blink detection sensor.
